How can people really believe that these DJ's had neither the knowledge of these goings on nor a direct hand in it?

Would this mean it's possible to sabotage the list (or the authencity of the votes, if there ever was) sort of disqualifying DJs in the list by scriptvoting for them without the DJs having anything to do with it?
I'm sure "I had nothing to do with it" sounds like a pretty comfortable explaination and could hurt the fanbase if the DJ is suspected for cheating in the list.

If that is possible, the concept of that list turns from bad to shit...

Why would Dj Mag do something like THAT?

By allowing multiple votes from IP addresses they can boost their vote numbers and charge advertisers MORE money for ads in their Top 100 issue.

I bet the advertisers would shit themselves if they knew how many "unique votes" there really were, ie. how many individual computers voted in the poll. The advertisers are paying big dollars for ads based on a lie.

Shame shame shame. I love it.

that is what i'm saying in the NYTA thread.

Ppl actually think cuz a dj is nice *woah huge shock factor to some ppl* that it means they didn't know shit that was going on.

You got problems if you hire a Marketing Manager and don't know the shit he is doing to Market your ass.

Especially considering CL and DJ Dan rose so high last year - Obviously they had to know something was up, and I find it really hard to believe that if it at all bothered them that they wouldn't have cut associations with the responsible people.

$$$$$$$$$$$

And to the others of you who are accusing this agent of losing them so much income due to their lack / loss of ranking - How much money do you think he made them this year due to doing the exact same thing for last years poll?

regarding Victor's posts, it's true that the only change of reputation will be that of the DJs. The poll, regardless of your feelings about it, didn't change. Some people got punished for their actions within a set of guidelines that have been the same for years. Whether they're the only ones who "cheated" (and I use the term loosely, since people like Markus Schulz seem to think that you're allowed an unspecified number of illegitimate votes before you sacrifice your idyllic purity of soul) or not, they're still the only ones being singled out. If you thought the poll was a joke, it'll still be a joke, now replete with clowns. If you thought it held a great level of integrity, you'll simply decide that those DJs took advantage of the otherwise innocent process.

The poll's image stays the same, but the DJs in question are now separated, justly or not, from the crowd, either as poster boys for the overemphasis on the importance of DJMag, or as deceitful professionals who fail to live up to the the industry's standards. That's the point [I thought] Victor was trying to make. If not...well, then I don't know what he was trying to say.

That's, hands down, the dumbest post I've seen in weeks.

Just a thought...

better & much more feasible idea:

stop voting for good DJs. You're never going to out-yell the fanboys, so if you can't beat 'em, ditch 'em. If there was only one genre represented on there, it wouldn't be nearly as influential. It's the fact that people are still trying to fight it & getting talented people on the list, no matter how low, that's giving it credibility.

the reality is guys the dj mag poll does matter. i'm sorry, i understand the movement and the thought process to discredit such a stupid idea for a poll and to rank something so objective but people love it... ESPECIALLY marketing people.

imagine being the p.r. person to the #1 DJ in the world... what an easy selling point that is.

and unfortunatly everyone in the business depends on the marketability of DJ's... 'Come to Pacha this week and see the #3 DJ in the world.'

exactly. If only Tiesto/PvD/Armintologists were voting, it wouldn't be considered to be a poll of 'the world.'

Show of hands - how many of you actually think this is going to affect Dan and CL's careers in some profound sense for years to come?

Again, it may not be universally acknowledged that it's a list of the top 100 DJs in the world, it would be a lot more easily disputed if it looked [even more] like a Trance.nu Class President election.

I think "disqualifying" DJs might be a tad brash. I mean, there are certainly instances where the DJ is probably involved, but hurting them when there's a good chance they weren't involved but their management had something to do with it.

I don't think some of these DJs would dare to a chance of being caught cheating like this knowing how much it could tarnish their image.

AS people have said, DJMag is a (stupid) marketing tool for DJs. It certainly impacts your booking fee.

So, it's a stupid marketing tool and there's a good chance that no DJ would care enough to try & manipulate it, but he also would never do such a thing, since disqualification would cause irreparable damage to anyone's image--a fate which no one should ever have to endure, even if involved (it's just too harsh).

Did I get that right?

DJs don't hand over big $$$ to PR managers/firms unless they are aware of the "tactics" that these said PR managers/firms use. Don't be naive people, the DJ world has always been full of backstabbing cheaters.

Maybe next year we'll see some drive-by's in the House music world, Global Underground vs Great Stuff playaaaaaaaasssssss, clack clack clack.
