I was going to respond to his post, but decided to read yours first. Good thing I did, because you said everything I would have said except one thing. Antec cases usually have LOTS of air vents that promote air flow. Not sure how the movement of air is in the cases, but I have never had a problem with cooling in one.

Yep, there is an intake section at the bottom front, the front bottom has vents on the side and underneath (which can be a nightmare in a carpeted room) but also a dust filter which is good.

Only problem is that the front intake fan position is behind the HDD cage instead of in front of it, so it sucks cool air in rather weakly, as opposed to blowing it well were it in the front.

Still, the 120mm exhaust at the back does a decent enough job of drawing air through the case.

The new Sonata is much better designed.

I like that there's a fan mount on the side of the HDD racks as well. I have a 120mm going on there pulling heat away from the HDDs and pushing it to the rear exhaust.

Hahaha, that is the badly positioned fan I was referring to

Pushing heat from something by blowing over it is more effective than sucking heat off of something, it's why all fans on heatsinks blow onto/into the heatsink as opposed to suck off (teeheehee) it.

so i got the mobo today, and i did learn its a socket 370 e210882 (it was listed by another number, so it is reasonably legit, and i can track down some more info about it.)

i felt inspired so i took everything apart, got it seated, put everything back together and realized i didnt know what to do...

i gave it a shot at starting, it has onboard vid and all my drives were hooked up properly but nothing came up on screen and it seemed to want my CDrom to be my main drive, it was the only drive being accessed (despite being plugged into the sec IDE... i did some fiddling and only left in the one master HD (my old one) and everything powered but nothing happened still, no response from the keyboard, et al.

should i load 5512 on my 60gig BEFORE i try to post the new board? after? i did find the mobo jumper settings *after* i had taken it back apart, so perhaps i should use CONFIG or RECOV...i dunno.

i will have to go to work soon, so at least the old stuff still lets me on the net. building a computer is prolly easier if you dont have to disassemble your only working one to get the other one running

There will be a jumper near the battery usually that you need to short (not what you think it is) to clear the cmos settings. Then first thing to do, install your 2x512mb sticks of ram, and NOTHING else. No cards, drives, nothing. See what happens. If it works, then it is a drive detection error. To solve this, take your blank drive (the 60gb I assume) and make sure the jumper is set to either single drive or master. Preferably master so there are no problems in the future. Then go into the cmos (prolly del at memtest screen) and make sure to setup the drives in there. Not all boards are set to auto-detect the drives.

This case right here has great air flow...

All the air is sucked in thru' the front, side, and top vents...then expelled out the back...

2x fans in the back
1x extra large fan in the front.

That's just with the case...Add on...

1x processor fan
1x video card fan
1x power supply fan

YEP, I don't have to worry one bit about over heating...

Never tried to overclock and frankly I'm too scared too.

You can have the best ac in the world in a building, but if your air management sucks, you will still have shitty cooling. Doesn't matter how much "air flow" you can produce, if the management of that air is horrible, you will still have a hot system.
