Well, they resorted to terrorism, but I'm talking about Chechnya itself. Russia fought for years to subjugate them. If Russia tried the same thing on Georgia, it would be even worse.

russia fought for years because their president at the time was yeltsin, notorious drunk and probably the biggest pussy russia ever had. putin became president on dec 31 1999 and grozny was recaptured on feb 6 2000. coincidence? i think not.

1 to 1 on the conventional battlefield, yes. If Georgia has any expertise in asymmetrical warfare, they could probably do much more than a Chechnya. Anyways, Georgia is smart to have withdrawn when they did.

Yeah, Georgia is stronger then Chechnya ever was, but Russia of today is not the Russia of the 1990's. I truly doubt Georgia will be able to resist this onslaught for long. My guess is that the russians are pursuing this action until either Georgia agrees to withdraw its NATO aspirations and agrees to become a russian puppet, or until the government of Georgia is brought down and another more russian friendly regime is installed. Unless, of course, Georgia manages to mount some a serious defense and blocks russian attacks, which I doubt is likely.

Chechen people have the best dam fighters on the WHOLE Caucasus. Very spiritual and proud people, I respect them a lot. They even showed Russians how strong they are, and they are not afraid of missiles, tanks, planes, advanced weaponry. On several occassions Chechen forces have kicked Russian butt harder than anything I can recall since World War II. For many years, ever since 1815 when Russia entered the region, in times of war Chechens and people of Dagestan region have driven Russian troops into fear, their fearless attacks, using hardly any weaponry they were able to inflict so much damage on the Russian forces. As Russian-Canadian, I can tell you that without a doubt. Georgians dont even stand close to the fierce and proud Chechen bloodline, no offense. Thats why I hope Chechen people can reconcile with Russian people once and for all.

EDIT: Chechens have proven to be the most difficult people to control in the whole Caucasus. Thats why Russian government would not dare say anything about human rights violations today in Chechnya (by Chechen officials (which are happening). Russia just turns its eye, which is sadly the right thing to do to keep the peace.

^Why do you refer to Chechens as a whole different people instead of as Russians? Do you believe Chechens are not russians? If so, than why not let them have there own indepence, etc?

Chechen people are Russian citizens, Russian, but of Chechen ethnicity. Russian Federation is made up of many different cultures and ethnic groups, and the Constitution was written to protect each and every one of them. Multi-ethnic county, and that is one of the country's main jewels.

And thats where the problem comes in - grant independence to one group, and the domino effect is highly likely.

Heck, Quebec, Basques, Scotland, Native Americans, etc. all want independence, but I dont see according government bodies granting them their wish.
