I swear, I should file a lawsuit against them all for frivolously wasting thousands of trees, the garbage, fantasies and lies they print on a daily basis. Anyways, obviously Joel is taking the piss. Honestly, I cant say I ´get´his tactics. If I were him, I´d move away from message boards and get on with his career. I´m sure if he started ignoring the online community, they´d be lapping him up again in no time.

Having been around here for a good number of years, and having had many a conversation with DJs about TA, I can honestly say I´ve seen a huge shift in their impression of our forums. Once respected, now.... the opposite. And I know its because of stupid pissing contest ´who-can-we-tear-down-today´threads like these are to blame.

But I have to say that I find it incredibly interesting that he is THE biggest thing to come out of Toronto´s dance music scene, and what do you all do? Shit on him. Nice. "We support our local talent" my ass.

But do they get it? The only real news items ever in those are the sports fixtures. The question no longer remains if Joel said it or not. He has admitted he said but he also stated that what he said was in a joking manner just to get off with the chic on the phone.

For me and a lot others hating, the issue is not that we do not support local talent or we are jealous of his success because those who know me, as yourself, know that I am the first to back up locals but at same time also the first to criticize them when they do something idiotic like Joel did here. The reason the “hating” has increased is because this is not the 1st time Mr local super star has gone out and did something really unprofessional. Regardless of the fact, it was a joke or not (which we will never know because it’s always about the he said she said bullshit) this sort of statement is not something you expect from a Dj .. errr sorry, Producer who is really famous. Anyways, just like people who are defending him have a right to their opinion, I believe people who have had enough of him should be entitled to their opinion. That’s all I have to say about that.

Totally agree with you here Tyler. IMO, just b/c someone famous and/or talented came from the area does not mean that I'm going to support them, if they're unprofessional or disrespectful in their manner. I wouldn't deny their talents, but you also can't excuse poor behaviour. I'm not a huge fan of Ritchie Hawtin's (who many of you know grew up in my hometown) work (though I'm starting to get a lot more into in, which is irrelevant here)...anyway, although I don't love what he does, I'm still supportive and go to see him when he's in the area and am proud to say he came out of my hometown. But if he were to go around running his mouth (joking or not) saying he's better than everyone, other DJs suck and saying shit on forums just to get a rile out of people and just being all around unprofessional, my respect for him would definitely start to fall.

First off, I miss you too!!

Secondly, I agree with you Tyler, some of this is not professional behavior, which is why I said he should move away from msg board wars and commentaries, and focus on his music. As for what he should or shouldn't say to the press should be talked out with his publicist. I'm not saying we should support him *just* because he's from TO. But I'm just not sure which came first with all this 'hating'- the chicken or the egg theory. The bigger you get, the more they want to tear you down. Just look at Tiesto.... he gets all the horse comments, photochops, etc..., and we all know Tiesto doesn't go out and verbally offend anyone in interviews or message boards. I've met him on a few occasions, and I think he is one of the rudest egotistical DJ's I've ever met (and that was before he was big), but I'm not going to go out there and ridicule him like so many others, who have never even had an encounter with him.

Anyways, its not the first time in history that an artist or musician or public figure has said offensive or ridiculous things, some have definitely done so on purpose, to evoke a reaction or cause a stir. Perhaps its all in his 'master plan', whether it backfires on him or not is another story... Bottom line though, he makes amazing music.
