Enough that i can say what i said without feeling guilty about saying it. Seriously, I've done my fair share of travelling, and I've had the pleasure to met people from most parts of the world for different reasons (business, school, or just for fun) and everyone I ever met anywhere for any reason that came from israel with no exception was a fucking douche. Every single one of them was very rude, every single one of them had this "I'm much much better than you" attitude, and every single one of them basically wanted absolutely nothing to do with anyone that was not another israeli unless it was absolutely necessary. Seriously, about 10 years ago i went to England for a month during the summer to improve my english skills, and at the school where we had our classes there were people from at least 30 different countries, and the only ones that wonted absolutely nothing to do with anybody else were the damn israelis, you could see the disgust on their face when they were in the class with everybody else, and the relief they felt when the class was over and they could return to their tight group. Seriously, if i can go out and have fun with people from Kazakhstan, Russia, Japan, China, France and my own country at the same time there is no reason that someone from israel cant join in as well. FFS, if I meet more than 100 people from some country and every one of them deserves to be punched in face at least, or blown up by a bomb for some of the ruder ones, i have to think that something must be wrong with the whole damn country and not just the people i have been meeting. So 10 years of bad experience tells me to just stay away from anyone that comes from israel because quite probably it wont be worth my time. |
So your main bad experience was at summer school some 10 years ago. Right.
First of all you gotta know that Israelis are perhaps world champions in tavelling. Seriously, I'm sure about 10% of Israel's population is constantly OUTSIDE the country, all over the world, travelling. Secondly, Israelis are not hard to miss. Even if you are not "one of them" (as I am, although now in 'exile') you can spot many of them miles away by clothes, behavior and volume of speaking. Of course this attracts much attention, and naturally, as with "dominant" tourist groups, contempt (think of Germans in Spain or Englishmen in Greece).
However your generalization is unfair. I could just as easily think like that of Serbs, as many of the Serbian fellows in my city are thugs, drugdealers, gamblers and all of the Serbian students at my faculty stick together as a closed group, not even intending to communicate in German with others. Same thing with Chinese as far as subcultures and maintaining "ghettos" is concerned. And to think of all the British beerboys I've encountered all over Europe's festivals...The list goes on and on.
Yes, there's the Israeli type that is loud, rude and not open-minded. Obviously, these are the guys that you will notice most easily. The fact that Israeli are travelling in "armies" makes it comfortable for thenm to just stick together and not attempt to mix with foreigners. On the other hand many, many Israelis are travelling to the furthest spots on Earth just to break out form their society and merge with distant Perunian villagers or Nepalese monks. Then there's a bunch of intellectuals you might never had the chance to meet, who are travelling for the sole purpose of getting to know different cultures and make contacts with people from all over the world.
I've met gum chewing fat bastards who interrupt tourist guides just as I encountered glasses wearing literature students at jazz clubs, all from Israel. Generalizing as you do makes me reconsider my views on Slovenia, though.
Not.
