While I don't go out of my way to hold a baby and don't emote over them as much as their mother (which is only natural), I still think they can be pretty cool. Every once in a while I'll be shopping or stuck in line caught up in the hum-drum motions of everyday life, when this baby ahead of me in line will start looking at me with those big bright eyes and make those funny expressions. It makes me laugh and forget about all my troubles. I know sappy right.

It's not that some people may feel more special or better... it's a matter of being unable to relate to them. Exactly right. It's as though people are unaware of the fact that kids are kids, and their inability to accept something that is different to them seems a monumental weakness, if you ask me.

For the record, you're not one of those people I was talking about. Truly, being able to relate to someone is important, and of course it makes a difference in some way or another, but to hate children merely because you don't 'get them' or have to 'dumb yourself down' seems immensely arrogant, and actually untrue considering many of the people saying such things.

I've found that my opinion of kids has pretty much followed the course of this thread.

At first I was like "i don't really care for kids that much"

Then come all the people who absolutely love kids and feel the need to pound their love of kids into your skull over and over and over "omg isn't my cousin/son/adopted son so cute?!?!?!?!?" until you're yelling "I FUCKING HATE GODDAMN KIDS."

Exposing me to more children has actually made me dislike kids even more. I would much rather enjoy a pet dog or cat than a kid. It's pretty simple no kids = me happy. It's just a preference and on top of it i don't think kids could fit into my lifestyle anytime soon.

Exactly! I can't relate to rocks either - but I don't hate rocks, because everyone else can't relate to them either, so there isn't any kind of expectancy that you're supposed to go all mushy when you see rocks. Besides, rocks are quiet. Kids are fucking annoying.

See, I am 100% with you there. The worst part about kids are people's expectations of them or how we are supposed to react to or treat them, etc. Many of these expectations make sense, but many of them are stupid and pointless, and it's really not the childrens' fault at all.

Someone not preferring to be around children does not mean that at all. When I was younger I used to teach little shits swimming for a summer job, I could not stand it, and I was pretty good at dealing with kids.
