Yes, that song was deathcore, but it sounded pretty melodeathey imo. Certainly one of their less "core" songs.

Nah man, I read what you wrote, maybe it wasn't what you meant but you did imply that your vids were melodeath. Hence my post.

I still think your definition of "melodic" needs some work. Granted there's an ongoing split between in the melodeath genre with songs that really have varying degrees of brutality/harmony/melody being thrown in the same melodeath basket . As an example I just won't call "At the Gates" melodeath but some ppl do...

As I said I'm a newb, feel free to write a better explanation, same goes to smc, he's definitely a lot more knowledgeable than me.

Well I don't know it's better than someone just writing "no" in response to "all metal sounds the same" and not bothering to explain. Or not, anyway, I tried.

It's alright man. I know a good amount of knowledge with metal but I'm afraid I'm not an expert, theres a good amount of people that can probly crush me with knowledge that listen to metal for a living while I try to spread my taste of knowledge through all kinds of music. But since I dedicate most of my listening to metal I can call myself none other than a metal head unless I devote my tastes to another genre which I don't find happening at least for a good while if even which I doubt.

Many reasons. The most simple one - it adds another dimension to the music. Much like the guitars can be clean or distorted so can the vocals. Apart from that, undeniably, at the core metal is an aggressive genre. Aggression is much better conveyed through extremities, in the case of metal - screaming. That point can be expanded onto other emotions as well; despair, anger, excitement, etc.

That being said, deathmetal mostly employs growling rather than screaming. Growling is much more guttural in nature and is a better fit with the music. Although some use "screaming" and "growling" interchangeably...

Just to showcase my point.

Screaming:

Growling:
Practically any vids posted by TotalDeathXZero or something less brutal such as this

for growling it's much easier and healthier for frontman to bring bunch of angry and wild dogs instead.

Yes we do.

The first one was pretty good, had a few too many breaks at the start but the end part was pretty good. Reminds me of darkthrone's first album. Death metal that's melodic but actually reasonably dark and atmospheric at the same time!

Second one, much better. I absolutely love death doom and evoken are well regarded so that's no suprise.

Pretty reasonable, the vocals sounded not quite the best though, reasonable but not great. Nice feel to it though.

Fourth, too low quality to listen to really.

Fifth, sortof sounded immature, which I can handle with some stuff, but not in this instance.

Sixth

Seventh: Well that's different vocals to what I'm used to, but they do work reasonably well and that's a nice atmospheric track with some great melodies/riffs in there.

Eighth: Interesting, is this a cross between industrial and death metal? Don't really like the vocals though.

Nineth/tenth, still don't like vocals.

The "poppyness" of Nightrage and Swallow the Sun is practically identical in my eyes . What makes them melodeath? Well, what else would you call them? I do agree though, they're far from the best out there. I just dig that opening riff and they're a good example of screaming.
