Yes, and most of the time people complain about the sound because they don't want to stand around the middle where the sound is the best but the crowd sucks (because its too crowded) so they have to migrate to areas where the sound doesn't travel the best. (i.e. especially right in the front behind the 2 front speakers lol) make sense?
Oz, I understand what you are trying to say... I realize that not EVERYWHERE is going to sound good...but I do wander around trying to find the good spots - and my issue is that there are way more bad spots than good.... to me that is an issue. When only 20% of the people are going to be able to hear good sound that night... thats a problem.
With Guv I've come to accept that the sound will suck and I typically choose vibe over sound. But people wouldnt have to make that choice if there were more good spots than bad.

Well you will never get that perfection. There is a reason for the 'dancefloor' If I'm there for the music I find the best spot where the sound quality is the best.
well then we're going back to the statement that Guv's sound is NOT the best

Sure it is, compared to other venues in the city at the moment. It's the best. But we all have our own opinions, so we can't always agree

What does it matter if they are in business or not?
Maybe you started going out a year ago or so, but when you've heard good sound in Toronto, you get picky.
Obviously, you've never heard a good sound system in your life, so you shouldn't be cocky and try to change everyone's opinion.

the sound has been crappy since the reno's... at least KH still sounds fine
if anything, the best sound I've experienced in the city is at Footwork
+10 on that one!!! ever since their so called reno the sound quality at Guv has gone down big time. It seem as if they spent most of their reno money towards creating more bottle service area's around the dance floor.

ya they had cerwin vega speakers i believe. those sounded good... but once again, there is a pretty big size difference between viva and guv. it is much easier to get good sound from a smaller venue. ceiling height is also a big factor.

I Love Cerwin Vegas..I have a pair of AT-10s..mind you I haven't used them for ages.
The thing with The guv sound which I've come to realize is simply this: It's being used on soo many events/ movie shoots/shows/ other corp events that makes it impossible to have them tweaked to it's maximum output and capibility every single weekend.
There's been times that I've wanted to go and kiss those speakers..there's been other times where i wanted to stick a knife into my ears..lol!

i just cant take it any more so im going to put in my two cents.
every venue in the city has the main sound focused on the dancefloor. that is where people are supposed to go if they want to dance. some dancefloors may be bigger than others but that all depends on the layout of the venue in regards to flowing traffic. im pretty sure some clubs would like to make the entire space a dancefloor if they could do so.
even boa had spots where the sound wasnt as good such as the very back. the four main speaker stacks are located at each corner of the dancefloor.
bass is never really an issue since it is a radiating frequency. that shit travels everywhere and tends to linger more in corners. it is usually side fill that clubs could do better with as that is directional.
