Italians make 0 effort with tourism because they assume there will be tourits forever. Also, and this is another discussion entirely, Paris is the "best" city for accomodating tourists", so much so that I feel like it's a tourist city altogether. It's lost a lot of charm.

Parking instructions in Bulgaria are in Bulgarian and that's it.

2- Not only does Quebec publish guides in English, but it also publishes guide in Spanish, German and Italian.

I went into the Ogilvy store the other day, and there were Montreal shipping guides and tourist guides in English...

I am quite surprised to see that some people want to travel to see exactly the same thing they have at home.

Whenever I travel, and I have travelled a whole lot in my life, I am looking for difference and surprises....

Julien, Quebec is not part of a third or second world country

As for tourism guides available in English, IDK, you may be right, but last I was told and last I saw French language offerings were better.

And please don't tell me I'm thick. I don't think I deserve it. I'm not an idiot, this is a broad topic and you can't expect everyone to get their points 100% right every time. I'm saying what I feel, and I think that personal opinion, by default, constitutes for a large part of this discussion we're having.

Why do tourists still come? Fact is that tourists visit everywhere. Tourists visit Afghanistan. So what? It's not about the tourists who are still coming here, it's about the tourists who are not coming here. All I'm saying is that Quebec could do a lot more to maximize tourism revenues.

Come on admit it Jay, Quebec has many wonderful and charming places that even most locals barely know about! I'm not saying Quebec doesn't have anything to offer to tourists, I'm saying that it doesn't make it easy enough for tourists to spend their money here.

how many languages are offered here?

the Afghanistan remark only weakens your argument. you are wrong.

You are right about the insult and I apologize.

However you can't tell me I can't name third world countries and then name Afghanistan.

The fact is that you posted to say that you thought the OP had a point. The OP's point is that by having street names in French, Montreal is hurting it's tourism industry.

That point is wrong and has been proven wrong over the course of this topic.

What do you mean? There may not be more than a couple hundred a year, but last I checked, I'm pretty sure Afghanistan is getting some tourists (they just recently inaugurated their first national park). Anyway that was not meant to be a comparison, and I hope to God you did not take it as one. It's simply a point that you will find tourists in all 4 corners of the globe. The issue is not that we don't have tourists, it's that I believe we can get so many more.

And let me tell you one thing - I am the first person to admit he is wrong when I make a mistake. I plan to give a certain friend of mine some serious shit next time I see him, as he clearly made me look like an idiot here. I can see that the local gov't does offer tourism information in other languages. IDK how recently they started or to what extent translations are available, but hey, I'm not gonna try to tell you otherwise when you place the evidence in front of me.

Anyway stop being so negative. I don't have any problems with you or with Quebec. All I'm saying is that I understand why some people might. And anyway if there's one thing you gotta admit is that we have a shit provincial, if not at least municipal government. I mean in the grand scheme of thnigs it's probably not that bad, but there;s room for improvement, though I suppose that would always be the case.

i'm fine with home not being disney world.

what matters the most is those of us who live and work here everyday, not those who will visit for 4 days and leave.

i'm sure this is the case with any other city.

Ok thanks - and this is my last comment before I get owned to the point of no return. First, Afghanistan was mentioned in an ENTIRELY different context. Second, no I do not agree that street names being only in French is an issue. That is something that gives the city its character and I don't see why anybody would have a problem with that anyway.

Anyway seems this is getting beaten to death (though it may just be me). Quebec is a great place but the government here could spend its time and its money better. That is all.

I'm actually one who believes that Montreal is a terrific city to grow up and live in, but alas we're talking tourism here.

Anyway I swear to STFU now.

Let's all STFU then and agree that there is room for improvement. There will always be room for improvement.
