Fledz,

No offense, but I do have a tough skin - more than you'll ever know. I'm just not interested in reading this nonsense bitching about THE No. 1 DJ in the World, just because they feel he's too "commercial" (as in successful, popular and loved by millions - unlike them); or people moaning that Vocal Trance is cheese; or the idiots who are plain afraid to admit they even like Trance (going back to the main question of this thread). The point is: I know what I like, I have a good ear for it, and so do my listeners. So, I'll keep on liking and playing what I want - no matter what the "underground", "quality" control crew thinks of it. And THAT is why this forum is a waste of my time. Cheers, mate.

Those are THE only ones I prefer the most. The rest of EDM styles generally bore me to death. No offense.

Yes it is. Go away if you can't handle people with differing opinions to your own.

This site caters for everyone. There isn't just 2 sides, trancecrackers and "mnml hipsters".
Just this week I posted a recommendation for a Ferry Corsten album and then also posted in a thread about prog house/"nu-disco". Clearly there are people here which fit in the middle. I've expanded my music library since joining this site and I enjoy its in your face criticism even if I don't always agree. But that's the great thing, you can take all points on board and make your own decision rationally.

Or you could cry and then complain the site doesn't like trance anymore blah blah wah wah...

Okay, so, all the bitching aside, let me ask you this: what IS exactly "quality" Trance (and Trance ONLY - not Progressive House or Hard Dance or any of that) you speak of? Provided that:

1. We all seem to agree that artists like Cascada or Basshunter, or DJ Sammy, etc. have nothing to do with "quality" and/or Trance.

2. There seems to be a disagreement on the topic of a DJ /Producer /Remixer being successful = commercial = not "quality". Which goes back to the question: does success = lack of quality? As well as, does underground [a.k.a. unknown-ness] = "quality"?

3. A lot of people on here seem to have an opinion that [almost] any given VOCAL Trance track (think "Unforgivable", "Break My Fall", "On A Good Day" or - more recently - "Man On The Run" or "Not Enough Time") is a piece of garbage.

4. Are artists like Markus Schulz, Cosmic Gate, Sied van Riel, Sander van Doorn, Myon & Shane 54, Gareth Emery, Rafaël Frost, Sean Tyas, Simon Patterson, Ummet Ozcan all also considered by you non-"quality", to put it in terms of the veterans of this forum?

Please enlighten me. Thanks.

P.S. Let's keep it Trance-related, since this is a discussion about TRANCE on TRANCE Addict.

As already mentioned, no need to be frustrated since this is not a trance-only board.
To answer some of your questions:

1. Yes. But the fact is that in recent years many big names such as Armin, Tiesto, Paul van Dyk etc. have also placed themselves more or less in the same category as DJ Sammy and Cascada. Here are some examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ltsf7Vy7KE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7qEivYkgZM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDUrp-l_dj8

Call it pop, eurodance or whatever. It sure as hell is not trance and IMO it plays in the same league as DJ Sammy. Wait in fact I even think DJ Sammy is better than the above mentioned garbage.

2. Well my examples above shows that in many cases the lack of quality comes with commercial success. I wouldn't mind if they just said "now let's produce quality pop music". But it's horrible, even as pop music.

3. When was the last time you heard a good vocal trance song? I sure as hell can't remember. It's all a giant cheesy mess.

4. Exactly. Most of them would be better if they quit producing long ago. Markus Schulz, Cosmic Gate and Sandern Van Doorn have all gone utter commercial and most of the others are lacking new ideas so they are too occupied by remaking old tracks.

and finally to answer your initial question on what is quality trance. Here are three examples in my opinion actually released in the last couple of months:

http://www.discogs.com/Blue-Planet-...release/1875777
http://www.discogs.com/Union-Jack-P...release/1927766

To be back on topic: Trance is sort of like those few [known] gay kids in high-school - they're popular, they're entertaining and noticed by almost everyone. Yet the other kids, i.e. jocks, who think they're the "cool" ones keep making fun of them and beating them in the parking lot. Kinda like what's happening on this forum.

Are you suggesting you are of the homosexual nature?

No. Honestly I love trance and progressive house too but now you're just giving the rest of us a bad name.

It's not that I can't handle it - I don't really care for it. I was looking for LIKE-minded people on here and, for the most part, I was wrong. I appreciate the hostility, though. Cheers.

Would it make you more hostile, if that was the case?..

http://www.discogs.com/00db-Heaven-Hell/release/1890751

1. This is precisely what me and most of the others on this forum seem to disagree on: while I do believe that Cascada and such have absolutely nothing to do with quality and/or Trance, I do believe that songs like PvD's "Home" or "For An Angel", Armin's "Going Wrong" or "Fine Without You", Tiesto's "In The Dark" or "Break My Fall" are probably ones of THE greatest Trance tracks ever produced.

2. I still feel it's Trance. Just because it is not obscure, underground and known to an inner circle of 500 DJ's only - it doesn't make it non-"quality", in my opinion.

3. An opinion vs. An opinion, is all it is. I believe "Not Enough Time" by Cosmic Gate feat. Emma Hewitt is THE best Vocal Trance track of 2009, hands down. The two following - in my opinion - would be "Man On The Run" by Dash Berlin with Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren and "Unforgivable" by AvB feat. Jaren. Which I'm sure you'd consider "cheese", because most of the club-goers feel like ripping their clothes off, when those tunes come on.

4. All the DJ's I mentioned (and about half of them are newcomers) I find fantastic. And that's - again - just my opinion.
As for the links you posted, I'll check those out tomorrow, for it's almost 4 AM here, in California, and let you know what I think. Cheers.

Man On The Run - Wicked track with some nice remixes
For An Angel - Well good classic there, though I never quite got that into it like everybody else.
Unforgivable - Has a great couple of First State mixes. Original is meh.
Going Wrong - Ooooh yea thi....WAIT WHAT!?!? THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!
NO NO NO NO NO. I'm sorry but no. No no no.

If you think those are the best trance tracks ever produced, you've got about 15 years to trawl back through.

I said "ones" of the greatest tracks, meaning: as of late. Stoneface & Terminal Remix of "Unforgivable" is the best, in my humble opinion. Also, what the fuck is wrong with "Going Wrong"?!? More people bitch about that one than Bush's presidency. Yet, I love the DJ Shah's Magic Island Mix.
