but!

finally someone here who uses what they got to good effect on music and doesn't sound like they are trying to copy anyone else. that green tune is kind of like psy-trance on steroids which i bet thats why chris lawrence liked it. I have to say the leftfield track sounds better and has more of a dance appeal to me. its got a better arrangement and mixing quality to my ears. i take it you spent some money on software synths? or please make my day and tell me you are just using fruityloops with the stock synths that came with the program?

all my releases are made in Reason.

If I remember right, palm used to have some gear but sold it and is happier using Reason alone. The expense of the studio doesn't say much about the quality of the music.

ive had all that gear, i couldnt make anything with it, it was too much fucking around with midi-delay, preset-saving and re-opening, backing up projects in daw i didnt knew, it was just too much around it, and it almost killed my musical drift. so i sold everything and restarted with a laptop only and now i get results again after two years of nothing. learning logic atm and its internal instruments. might look into VST in a few years but not before i know Logic and its own instrumenst 100%. ive learned that less is more, it truly is, i have alot of respect from artists who manage to be creative with all that hardware, they must have HUGE brains! (im not talking about anyone here, relax).

Yea me too. I used to have a load of hardware but now I think my sound is better with just one hardware synth and the rest VST's.

I must be thick because I can't cope with loads of sample banks and tons of new toys either - my mind does'nt work so well with too many options to trawl. I now go out of my way not to upgrade, not to update and not to add yet another 1000 free kicks off a future music mag or whatever.

Reading through these recent posts a lightbulb went on in my head and I see now what part of the problem is - it seems that most people here only see hardware instruments as tools for recording and fail to see that many people like to just play. One of the main reasons I've always liked hardware is simply for the immediacy of powering it up, turning knobs, and playing, without having to turn on a computer, use a mouse to find/create sounds, etc. If you've seen my studio photos, you'd notice that, aside from a few key pieces, my hardware isn't even positioned in front of my computer - that's by design because I usually practice my piano playing, work on song ideas, play around with sounds, etc. with my hardware, not my computer. This may not be true for everybody, but I can get very inspired by having actual instruments in front of me, whereas I find making music with a mouse/computer to be a total inspiration killer.

lol yeah my mind must be full too, i deleted all my samples and only use included samples now lol. their just as good though so why not, and it makes everything so easy to backup and collab and everything. i love the feeling of simplicity. dear god am i becoming a minimalist?
