uff, getting killed today. everything I own is down @ least 8pct. Time to start averaging down some things.

one thing I need to do better as an investor is have the balls to actually sell off 50+% of my positions when I should be selling them, and buying them on market dips. learning how to master that timing however is no easy task.

yeah.. well.. its not easy to sell at a loss. I'm used to setting stops and usually live by them. For crude i got way to cocky and its killiing me now. last week i basically saw a good majority of my total market earnings go down the drain, and the ride isnt over yet. Its a good time to short the market if you have guts. Otherwise if your in cash. just stay in there, wait til the vix settles down and the market reaches some sort of bottom. Chaos.

I doubt that it's possible to have perfect timing. That's why people hedge.

Me, I sold at exactly the right time, to the day... but started re-entering positions way too early. Both the TSX and Dow are perilously close to 6-month lows; if they break support, it might very well be the beginning of a longer-term downtrend (ugh).

Only in TO for the DEMF thread but saw this. I've been making back losses hand over fist this week. I'm 100% short and have been for months (which has me almost even now). If you couldn't see a big correction coming soon after the 14 month rise from 666 to what was the high, 1200+, in the S&P, you're in fantasy land.

We've been long overdue for a correction and the Europe situation + China trying to slow it's bubble-like growth are just speeding the decline. This is not all Europe and I'm surprised people are ignoring China as much as they have been. The miners, mining equipment cos., dry bulk ships, etc. have been absolutely slaughtered in this sell-off. Look at a BUCY, DRYS, or JOYG chart for the past month. Most of them sold off far more than the banks today.
