Andy Blueman is great at what he does, but the uplifting trance he has produced does not indicate whether he will be able to make it in the film industry. The music he has composed does not take much compositional skill (as with EDM music) to write but he does arrange and produce everything well in terms of the genre that he produces in, but film music is an entirely different set of skills.

This is not to say that he does not have the potential to succeed, but what he has done so far does not prove him anything in terms of his aspirations yet. I personally think he needs to take some formal education in film scoring and understand all the music theory behind composition before he can start actually pursuing any endeavors in film composition.

This is whatI've been getting at.

While richie (m4b) may be harsh, he bang on, and frankly if you think he's harsh, you should try the film industry - from my experiences, and even I've been very fortunate and lucky to have had a good path and work with some great people (Tom Morello included lol), it can be a cold hard relaity check for some, especially for those who "think" they have the goods.

I think your definition of orchestral tinged dance music rather than film music is far more accurate for AB.

Score is exactly that: scoring music to picture, and that's a whole different ballgame and other skillset, which, trust me is far removed from making EDM with some orchestral samples.

btw, Eastwest is OK, but it's kind of starting rung on the ladder.as I said before, I could literally tell within a couple of seconds they were fake and lacked the modulation. I will give him that his mixes are quite good and I reckon the reason he doesn't like mastering on his tracks is that they over compress the strings, which thankfully doesn't happen too often in score engineering.

well we are all anticipating granddad passing on as he was getting quite senile talking about leprechauns and his memory wasn't no so great and so we were all quite glad. I mean the last 10 years, he has developed this whole universe of leprechauns and writes their names down so he doesn't forget. He was never in a bad mood tho and always started every conversation as time went on with whats my name, oh yes Richard, and start talking about the little people but in a way that was sort of like he was letting me into this secret society and that its kinda classified. The level of detail was incredible tho. Like either he was fucking crazy, or this was all true or it was the longest running practical joke of all time. My grandma never really lost it and thought his stories were absurd and she would test him about names and events but he would grab his diary, and show the time and place and the description. You just had to witness it. I mean he could talk hours and hours about the little people. What they ate, What happens if you see one. What happens if you catch one. What happens if you find their hideout. The different ranks, the age and how many kids they had and how big the babies were and how long they've been around. Just fucking Epic. Like he just watched Darby Ogill and the little people every day for 20 years while on acid. I remember being 14 and asking about them, and even then he had theories and was excited about the questions because he felt he had the scoop. And this was when he was kinda losing it but still able to express him self quite well. And he would just salivate at any leprechaun questions because he thought of himself as one of the most knowledgable people in Ireland on the topic. Actually the first thing we did was find his diaries as he was quite secret about the diaries. He would not let you look at them ever and keep them in a chest that was locked. He considered himself in a position of extreme knowledge as they had chosen him to be seen , yup, they can chose if they want you to see them, and to let his book out to the public would be a a huge blow for the little people as they did not want to be bothered and with all that information he was privy to, he had a duty to keep it under wraps.

When his memory was ok , and he found out that lets say I had told my sister something that he told me, he said he was very disappointed and that this information should be kept secret. Every so often, he would grab the diary and we would ask if he saw them and he scoffed like we were being stupid. WHy would they be here on a monday because he also knew apparently what they liked to do on different days. He also felt like we were being quite egotistical like as if a leprechaun would visit with so many people around. Nope, he would just write as he said a name or event he felt he should be more specific.I remember looking over his shoulder and there was the heading, Garments, and then this subheading shoes or something like that then the name I couldn't read and there was blue/green with a question mark and some math equation to represent his level of how certain he was. I also remember on the back , as he often closed it quick , there were the names of the bad leprechauns with fucking sketches abd as you can imagine being an engineer, his drawing was quite detailed and good. I remember one drawing I saw, he like had measurements of the height and had a theory that involved a class system that took height into account and also, he could tell you the size of the feet relative to the height as the ratio is not quite human.

As far as grandma, well we were all a little upset in that the timing was not very considerate. I mean we could of had them done at the same day had she not waited 3 days.

But really, they were quite old and both passed away naturally in their sleep and they didn't really have any major health issues other than getting old and the things that happen when you get old. Both were 101. And my nuttiness is probably hereditary but unfortunately because i am only 50% Irish , there is absolutely no way to ever see a leprechaun. Oh and if you were a protestant , you also did not have the chance and if you were catholic but lived in northern ireland, you also would never see one because he said they all live in the south.

Very interesting people with so many stories. I mean the leprechaun stories were epic and detailed like a Tolkien book but his work during world war 2 being some high level scientist that designed or had something to do with designing planes just cool. He would talk bout how he sometimes wished the Germans had hired him instead as they had more technology and he felt the British never wanted to just go crazy and make something that ok , might not be exactly what we need but fuck is this cool. He claims that he could of made the v2 rocket way better but you have to remember this is the guy that started seeing the small people as he would say. He did like the german designs and was a little jealous of their planes and although he thought the bombing was not the greatest thing, he did not really like the Brits at all as most Irishmen at the time felt. But he also did not like the Germans for reasons that were silly. He hated german folklore and balked at its sillyness and that the whole judging someone by their noses was quite silly as everyone knew it was the ears that showed whether you were smart or not. And his biggest reason for not liking them was that they were not catholic. Being catholic in Ireland was and kinda still is apparently a big thing. they treated it as a like a football team. Nobody really cares about it unlike Americans in that they went to Church but didn't really pay attention but like it was still a big thing and to not be catholic, like they made a big deal about it.

He always wanted to be close but not too close to hear the Stuka on a bombing run as he said the sound they make was absolutely brilliant like a wailing horn one might blast at a mega rave. He was pretty jealous of most of their designs as he said the Germans cared about aesthetics and not just performance and he felt the British made such ugly planes, ugly uniforms, ugly people. So while these raids went on were he was, I don't think it was in London but they were trying to hit the factories , he would sneak up with binoculars as they sometimes did day runs for more precise targets and hope to see a Stuka dive bomb the tank plant across the road. He was arrested a few times for being out during an air raid and until they realized where he worked and what he did, they thought he was some spy that parachuted in as that happened quite often and well the British did not really care for the Irish to start off with.

Anyways fucking epic that leprechaun shit, not quite back. Taking a few more weeks off while I go to places in Europe. Last stop is palm's house.

You'll see. I'm graduating on a business plan for a record label which has alternative ways of making money with music and alternative ways of spreading it. These two combined will make a unique platform that as such does not exist yet but is very viable. There's plenty oppurtunities out there if one is willing to think outside the box and take a small risk and put in tons of effort. Most labels don't think or take risks and do what everyone else does, in a lot of cases even the effort put in isn't what it should be.

I think my label's first release will already surpass the 1000 legal downloads within the first month. The businessplan should be finished this summer and after that I plan on launching the entire thing asap.

AB sound a bit artificial ok, it's true, a software based piano don't sound like a physical piano (however sometimes i find i prefer the sound of the nexus piano over my yamaha in some specific arrangements) but check Hans Zimmer Studio.

He has the best tools out there, and probably he records some parts from real instruments.

OK i wasn't joking but i recognize Hans Zimmer is still some steps above Blueman:

-Theme from the Rock
-Gladiator
-Pirates of the Caribbean

This are my favs for him, but lately only the Dark Knight OST is good , Inception in my opinion is really mediocre, from the entire score i only like "Time" and "Mombassa" there is a track which is almost like Time but follows a #m key instead and is horrid imo.

Well making the score for the track should be more difficult, i find difficult to make a track to fit already existing vocals while i think making vocals for an already existing instrumental is easy. With this i guess happens the same, but yesterday they broadcasted Harry Potter on TV , i saw the first minutes and the main theme was playing, what made me think is that in the book there is nothing written like "The Harry Potter theme must be a 121 bpm Bm# with loads of horns and cowbell" so John Williams was completely free to create whatever he wanted for the film.

When composing for a film you aren't completely free of course, they'll surely ask you to make 3 minute 52 seconds for a car chasing and fit to several things happening (for example a slow motion camera and music needs to fit for this) i think is really hard but i think AB is being modest, he could be a very good Hans disciple, if i would be him i'd try to join a studio of composers, he has some talent despite some of you insist he is just another bedroom producer.

Without having heard any AB tracks, I would say that a realistic library doesn't instantly make a realistic sound, it's all about humanisation, technique and understanding of Orchestration.

I still wouldn't fully judge an artist's ability to write scores by listening only to his assumably cheesy uplifting trance breakdowns.

Well he has two orchestral tracks, that leaked Riding Through The Morning Mist track and this:

His tracks sound pretty realistic to me, cut the guy a break. It's not ultra-realistic but it's certainly a good attempt. Especially since all he has is a MIDI keyboard and a few software synths.

The biggest problem with many of these trance producers wanting to do "film music" is that for most of them, their style reportoire consists entirely of "epic action adventure." That's all they do, or all they want to do, or maybe all they can do.

It's like none of them even consider preparing for the possibility that they could be called on to compose something on a more modest scale. Nope; it's all Braveheart and Lord of the Rings, all the time.
