Regarding he people at the protest, I work across the street from it, and have gotten a dirty look every time I walk by wearing a suit. I've also seen it turn from a protest against "corporate greed", to an anti-NYPD statement. I know there have been some minor conflicts, but ironically the NYPD is working to keep the protesters safe. Think of it this way; if some retard came up and wanted to start shooting at the protesters, who would bring that person? Not Johnny cardboard sign...

I could write a whole drawn out post about my views on this whole thing, but I think everyone has pretty much made up their minds. I would only say that hopefully there isn't violence and bloodshed on the horizon, and that the OWS crew is able to explain their views in a logical manner to those in power.

Idk, this might be a thing where people see what they want to see. I've gone down there many times after work in dress pants and a dress shirt and never been treated any differently. I mean I could say the same thing about the few times I was handing out literature around the park to people passing by - you wanna talk about dirty looks? On some level I'm sure it goes both ways. I just see those people as the aberration; and it probably confirms your suspicions about the movement. And we're probably both right and both wrong to a certain degree.

However, I'd also disagree with it becoming anti-nypd, all the signs with NYPD on it are basically saying you are one of us. People obviously get pissed when arrests start going down, but the other 95% of the time it's been an extremely cordial relationship b/w us and the police.

i stand in solidarity with this movement however i agree that peace, civil dissobediance can only do so much. It will take alot more then that and i'm talking about real revolutionary change, revolutions no matter how you look at it have always been violent.

Hippies

In 1999 when we were protesting American big cooperations in Turkey we were called hippies, anarchists, now they are doing the same thing and became heros. Funny. This is America. Nothing is going to change. America=Capitalism.

I saw a girl wearing costume makeup to look like she had been brutally beaten, with a sign saying "please officer don't rape me". That doesnt scream solidarity to me. I've seen plenty of signs calling cops pigs and the like as well. Maybe those are the outliers, but they're still lasting images for me.

Today is considered #Opcashback day - check twitter and you will see more on it- basically urging people to take their money out of privately owned banks and moving it to non profit run credit unions...Below is an article on it. I may not do it today but I personally am sick of paying fees to Citibank for absolutely nothing in return- so I will be supporting our Credit Unions. You hit them in their pockets and thats when they will notice.

bunch of kiddie cops - toy soldiers. I can sympathize with the young ones since this is not what they signed up for- its those older cops with hatred, entitlement and anger in their hearts that are the real problem (of course some of these young guys are like that as well).
