No, variety is the spice of life. But listening to Schulz this year I dont think he's playing much trance, 75% of it sounds like nasty electro to me. And he's not alone. I dont think its doing anything for the more purist, underground and less electro orientated scene For me its a shame, I loved Schulz work until the last 18 months.

As for 'a group of trance DJs to stand up and do something different', what are they doing that is different? Armin, Schulz, Emery, SHM, etal are all playing a similar style. Bandwagon jumping is the phrase that springs to mind.

Not sure about the wranglings behind it all, but moving the old Armada night into "BE" at Space this year just didn't work. Saw Schulz there and he hardly dropped a trance record into his set, very tech-orientated.

I hope that the mods on here are noticing the registration dates of voters and looking for trends with particular djs registering just to vote. they should have the right to remove the votes if they are suspicious.

its plain annoying how even the ta poll is now cause for djs to twitter and post on fb asking for votes. how many more polls can they beg us to vote in. they look desperate.

^LOL that's really happening? I guess this poll is the last stand for real trance music!!!

i'm sure the following things will hold true when the TA results are finally posted:
1. Armin is still #1
2. Markus scores higher than he did on DJMag
3. Guetta isn't in the top 5 (perhaps not even top 10)
4. much fewer hardstyle djs make the list, and we certainly won't see any of em in the top 20
5. skilled, established, and respected djs will generally all score higher than on the djmag poll (see: zabiela, j00f, sasha, digweed, etc)
6. An21 won't make the list, neither will max vangeli SO HELP ME GOD

It certainly drew the crowds though. I went to see the night in August with Schultz and Emery playing b2b for 6 hours. Hardly a trance track in site, as you say. I wouldnt say it was tech orientated (I wish!), it was like a fizzy, high octaine electro fest imo.

I just dont think Schulz is doing much for the trance scene at present and hasnt for 18 months. I get the feeling that him, the rest of the Armada crowd, Emery and others are like rats deserting the trance ship which is unfortunate.

Interesting take on things. I notice you arent alone in your concerns about the number of October 2011 registrations. Not sure if its coincidence or some of you Vets are suffering from paranoia. Id have thought promoters would have joined before the Djmag vote. As you say, they could be here to discredit the result though I guess.

For the record, Im a lurker of around 10 years (probably alot longer) and actually joined as im beginning to get disillusioned with the scene and wanted to know if there is still any good hypnotic trance out there that Im missing. Most 'traditional' trance djs are leaving me cold at present and I dont even think you could stick the trance label to most of the big guns at present.

Anybody that follows Schulz closely could have seen this coming. With all the fluffy vocal stuff that has come out in the last 18 months that he has went publicly on record about not being fond of, and the mission to focus on the clubs in the last year, his direction has not surprised me in the least. I think the biggest surprise though are the amazing mash-ups he has done this past year that succesfully fuses techno and trance. The mash-up he did called Universal Hypercombo which is never released. Taken from Push - Universal Nation and the bassline from Sasha Carassi - Hypercombo was insane and I am hoping he does more things like that instead of the farty bass electro stuff.

As I said many times before, I'm big fan of Schulz (productions & sets), but the guy started to suck heavily around mid-2010! He still tries to play some good underground stuff but unfortunately thats only 10-15% of his sets nowdays, the rest is noisy fiupiu garbage, which the new coldharbour 'army' thinks is the best music in the world.
So yes, Schulz has gone downhill, I don't know, maybe he wants more & more commercial gigs, he should answer. One thing is for sure - he's not the DJ he used to be and 2011 was his worst year.

Are you saying that he wasnt fond of the proggy stuff he was doing or the electro orietated stuff that he's doing now?
