I used to love as a 13-15 year old doing my morning paper round in summer. I could get up & do it at 5:30am and the streets would be warming up but desserted completely which was good because my bikes brakes were never that great.

Since it's summer(ish) now, good, locally grown fruit that tastes fresh & hasn't travelled halfway across the world. Except for my love of Peruvian grown Mangoes.

When your nose and entire face feel really super dry and congested, so you find a quiet place where no one can see (you know, like the driver's seat of your car) and start digging around in there with your favourite finger. Then you find it. The big one. The cordon. Green gold. It even has a fucking handle to tug on, as though it's just been waiting for you. You start to pull and it resists; it is so stubborn, you can feel it tugging at the back of your eyeball. When you finally rip that motherfucker out by its dry end, it's like 3 fucking inches long and all gooey on one end, you wonder how it ever even fit.

And then. Then you inhale with savour, as though it were your first breath.
