I have a much easier time understanding addiction to stimulants i.e. adderall, than, say, painkillers. A drug that supports productivity can camouflage itself through ones ability to be a responsible member of society while on them, whereas a painkiller practically zombifies and kills the need to even WANT to be motivated (that's just my experience over the course of the few times I've dabbled in the PK-zone for pain relief after getting my wisdom teeth out, etc). A generalization to be sure, but I have no idea why a person would want to put themselves into a near-comatose state - going to work or school or whatever in that condition has got to be hell.
Stimulants on the other hand work against laziness and support the need to be productive. I'm completely ignorant on the subject, but I would feel it would be even more difficult to persuade someone that has been told they have ADD (I have a really hard time believing such a 'disease' even exists, but once again, ignorance speaking here, don't let my two cents fill the tip jar) than to get someone off a downer. But of course, everyone responds to drugs differently, and they are taken for different reasons, so what the hell.
Just go smoke some weed.
