Tom Yelland - The Journey (Episode 98) - 2015 Year Mix
All good things must come to an end. This is more likely than not the last ever Trance year mix I will do. The reason? Trance just doesn’t give me the same buzz it used to. I realised this a few months back when I was going through the new releases on Beatport. I then went over to Traxsource, did the same with Funky House and was thoroughly enjoying myself.. where as with Trance - it just feels like a chore now  .
It was fairly easy picking out 100 or so tracks for this year mix, unlike other years. The quality of the tracks in this mix stood out head & sholders over the rest. Bit harsh? Maybe, or perhaps it’s time for Trance to refresh itself and stop going after the hardest kick drum / trying to be like every other track.. especially the uplifting side!
As usual, below you will find my Top 50 of 2015, the rest of the tracks in the mix will be a surprise! Special mentions to Facade for the tune of the year - his remix of JOOF - If I Don’t Come Home. There hasn’t been a more emotionally charged progressive track this year... maybe except for Jon Hopkins incredible remix of Coldplay which came very very close. They have been the only two tracks which have made my spingle tingle! Also have to mention a couple of late comers to the top 10 - Ellez Ria who is one of the most versatile trance producers around - he can produce Uplifting, Goa & in this instance - gorgeous, Chicane style progressive trance. Also Johnny Yono for a track which came out on Perfecto Fluoro. It has nothing Fluoro about it really but it’s one heck of a slower uplifting track.
Up next - EOY classics mix - this one's an absolute dandy! 30 tracks - all very very under rated and aside from 1 - you will probably haven't have heard any of them in years!
Then from episode 100 onwards - the podcast will focus solely on Funky House.
