Like?

She's a strong black woman. That doesn't mean she's militant.

I won't bother to read any of her books but even some of the things she has said is stupid. Don't get me wrong - I like Obama - I just don't like her.

So does Obama have a chance of becoming president? I don't understand how this election will be working out, and who analysts think has the advantage.

To his defense, Trump didn't even really look like a bum.

I like you a lot Mel. In fact, over the years you've definitely become one of my favorite people on TA, no doubt.

Unfortunately I have to say that I think your view is a little bit misinformed, and while you're certainly allowed not to like Ms. Obama, doing so because of the supposed nature of the church they were involved with shouldn't be at the top of that list. Most of what has gone to press about the Trinity church and its members has been borderline slanderous.

As far as reverend Wright, I'm a big believer in the notion that a lot about a person can change in a few years - holding him to statements he made between 10 and 30 years ago just seems inappropriate. The most powerful aspect of Malcolm X life is that he rejected the so-called "black power" movement of the Nation of Islam and embraced the notion of unity and peace as opposed to "fighting the man", as it were.

Not trying to sway your opinion, just offering some food for thought. A good voter is an informed one.

the Church where Reverend Wright preaches. I can't recall the name.

What's so difficult to understand that the Church seems to attract a type of "Black Power" that I don't appreciate, and I have a feeling it was mostly her doing.

My opinion. I don't like the stupid things she's said - which you think is a "strong" characteristic - I see it as a negative characteristic.

It's gross to me that people can even associate themselves with a Priest who says those kind of things.

One of the best, most moving, intimate, rousing, humble, and beautiful speeches I've heard from a convention platform. Maybe she should be running for president. You don't need any commentary from me. This was a home-run. And sincere. Thank God that in the end, the truth struggles out there. Just look at her mother's face.

The notion that tonight should have been about ripping the bark off the president seems to me misplaced. No one needs to be persuaded that the country is on the wrong track. We have endured one of the worst presidencies in American history, a stalling economy, and a war that was as deceptively packaged as it was poorly executed. The wrong track number is at 80 percent. What was necessary tonight was rebutting the only real weapon the Republicans have: dragging Obama into the mud, throwing every extremist attack they can at him, painting him as a commie, alien, anti-American freak. For good measure, they had tried to paint Michelle as an angry black radical.

They failed. There was nothing more American than the way the Obamas spoke of their story. It made them more appealing to the white working class and the black working class. It defused the smears. And, taken as whole, it also gave the Democrats some good feeling with the Kennedys.

There was plenty I didn't like about this night, as you can tell if you scroll down. But it succeeded in the most important task. Michelle did it. She more than did it. She struck fear in the GOP tonight. Their lies about the Obamas will fail. As they should.

A reader writes:

I am a former military police officer and she made me cry.

Well, it's not an opinion I share, so that could be where the misunderstanding comes from.

I can't think of anything "stupid" she's said that wasn't horribly twisted out of context (like the "I've never been so proud of America" comment). The "down with whitey" tape turned out to be a manipulated video as well. She takes a bad rap because she's a strong woman that scares people. Nothing more than that. I agree with RJT and Andrew Sullivan - the more that people learn about Michelle, the more they like. But unfortunately for many, fear of the unfamiliar takes hold.

Furthermore, it's worth noting that Michelle's approval rating is higher than Cindy McCain's by four points.

I thought so too till that NAACP meeting where he just reiterated everything within those 10-30 years.

I know it shouldn't be at the top of my list and I know alot of you aren't religious so it might not be a big deal. I just grew up a certain way and I find it wrong. So I don't like her for these reasons.

I could be totally wrong but I just can't see Barack staying in that Church if it wasn't for the "strong" woman in his life pressuring him to stay.

I like u too RJT and glad u can understand my posts
