As a journalism major, thought you might appreciate these daff:

The Washington Post's "Style Invitational" once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.
Here are some recent winners:

Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period.

Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.

Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who does not get it.

Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

Hipatitis: Terminal coolness.

Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.)

Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer.

Decafalon (n.): The grueling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.

Glibido: All talk and no action.

Dopeler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

Arachnoleptic fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web.

Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.

Caterpallor (n.): The color you turn after finding half a grub in the fruit you're eating.

And the pick of the literature:
Ignoranus: A person who is both stupid and an ass.

The last one is most certainly the best. The bozone layer is pretty good too.

Oh yea and congrats on the interview ... my advice: stay in college forever.

hahaha, good stuff occrider. i love the style invitational. is that an old one? it looks familiar. i just picked up the october and november issues of maxim, i'm about to start my "research" heh heh heh...

i thought i would want to stay in college forever, but now i'm so eager to get out that i'm graduating a semester early. how time distorts things.

Hey thats awesome daffodil, good luck in your interview.

Im sure you will make it and when i get an issue of maxim and see your name and say "i know her, shes on TA"

The Style Invitational was always the one thing i looked forward to on Sundays (except for the comics of course). I love every week's contests, but since im down at school I never get a chance to read the Washington Post.

BTW, sorry to go off-topic (ha ha, like thats ever the case in THIS thread!!) does anyone else get those yellow underlines on certain words. A hyper-link to another website, for instance in occrider's post

buying a house is underlined
impotent is underlined
credit is underlined.

I know some Websites use that as a way to advertise but I havent seen it on TA before and now its cropping up in every post.

Does anyone else see this or is my computer just prone to advertisements?

Well I made it.

Timing:
Left Skyline Parking lot (dropped dad off at work) at 7:02 AM EST, arrived at home 10:03 PM CST.

860 miles. 15 hours (I stopped in at my mom's and went to dinner, otherwise it would have been shorter, say 12.5 hours)

Geography:
Crossed 6 state borders and drove through 7 states total.

Drove through 2 tunnels, paid 4 tolls, and went over a damn lot of hills.

Stops made:
Stopped for gas twice, to pee three times, once for lunch, and the aforementioned dinner/grab junk from mom's house and meet their new cat stop.

Music:
Listened to 4 live mixes, 10 Police songs, 12 GWAR songs, 1.5 hours of Big Hair cheesemetal , and about 3 hours of random EDM singles on my nice new MP3 cd player in ze car.

Beverages:
Drank one bottle of coke, one bottle of Red Fusion Dr. Pepper, one bottle of Mt. Dew, and 2 bottles of Sun Drop. (needed caffeine and I don't drink coffee)

Food:
Ate one Giant Roast Beef from Arby's on the way, half a box of JujyFruits, and some OliveGarden at the aforementioned dinner stop.

Usless factoids from today's adventure:
1. It takes exactly 3 repeats of the As The Rush Comes mix off of Nyana disc 2 to make it through Columbus OH.

2. There is a 40 mile dead zone in Sprint PCS coverage along Interstate 70 starting 4.5 miles west of the W. Virginia/Ohio border. (westward)

3. They are building a new overpass in Dayton, OH that has fighter jets carved into the pillars (actually looks pretty cool )

4. Indiana is almost exactly 2 hours wide across at the middle.

5. I crossed the Illinois state line exactly 2 minutes before the sun passed beyond the western horizon.

Bah I need to go to bed but I still feel like I am moving

MrS
