WTF does 'global presence' have to do with anything?
Do you watch international news programs and scan them for mentions of the city you live in to make yourself feel better?
Are you a tourist in your own city? Do you visit the Sydney Opera House regularly? Climb the Harbour Bridge every couple of weeks?
You should definitely stay in Sydney.

Because like it or not, you're part of the rest of the world and they do have an impact on the quality of a city in regards to things like tourism, architecture, investment and its culture. Out of all of Australia's capital cities its one of the few that actually attracts that much overseas attention.
Everyone likes to think they're an island, but they aren't.
Having been to over 40 countries, either for holidays, work or lived in them I tend to view things from a big picture perspective when it comes to comparisons. Here is where I make my home, my income and at a level I don't think I could achieve anywhere else in Australia with a few exceptions which only exist in little pockets in the other cities.
The difference between a tourist and myself, is that I actually own a few chunks of where I live. 70% of my investments are wrapped up in Sydney, 10% in other Australian cities and 20% overseas. There's a reason for that and its simply that the place delivers and its actually quite decent to live here.

No shit - I halfway expect a powerpoint presentation and numerous business-major hand gestures every time she starts squawking about that time she sold makeup.

technically speaking all continents are surrounded by water and thus are islands. Scientist have been recently debating whether Australia should be re-classified as an island. After all its the Pluto of continents.

Well that's just silly the only city that remotely resembles an island is Venice and thats not even located in Australia. But if I could be serious for a second all of the cities of Australia share a separation from the western world, thus being an island both physically and metaphorically.
