AROD &

NL is a tough call. Noone is really running away with it. I think it's a close call between david wright & matt holliday. If colorado makes a run at the wild card i think its holliday. By the same token, if Philly makes the wild card i think utley has just as good of a shot.

Vlad, the baseball writers have shown a clear intention to NOT vote for pitchers in the mvp race. Last year there was a strong case for Santana for the AL mvp. Every game he started in the second half of the season the twins won. I don't know how much more valuable you can get than that.

Let's talk Cy young:

NL is pretty easy - Jake Peavy

AL (little tougher) - Eric Bedard (this wouldn't even be close if he was on a good team)

Haren has better numbers (except strikeouts) and plays on an equally bad team.

Beckett and Sabathia are also having really solid years for playoff teams. I wouldn't be surprised if any of the four we've mentioned win it.

i like bedard over haren because they have similar numbers except that bedard has an unbelievable K/9: almost 11!!!!!

Now that i think about it it looks like beckett or sabathia will win the cy young solely because of wins. I think sabathia has the edge in that race though because he's pitched a bunch more innings then beckett.

Peavy made the manager let him pitch on 3 games rest to play against Arizona, thats some balls right there.

If Milwaukee didnt slip since the first half of the year, Id put in a vote for Prince Fielder, but he himself has kinda tailed off.

BTW, in the wake of this... I have Holliday, Fielder, Peavy and Sabathia on my fantasy team.

Furthermore, Johnny Damon had an assist from the outfield throwing a runner out at home, does anyone know the last time he ever did that?

A pitcher is less likely to get a MVP than a DH...The reasons are obvious...

Understood, but he is the only person really dominating in the NL.

who else on this board thinks the guys at baseball tonight are idiots? Specifically, "one nut" john kruk, and "sexual harraser" steve phillips. I have no idea how Kruk got his job at ESPN, he's a clear yankees hater (i don't care if you don't like the yankees, but as a broadcaster you need to be objective), and i can't remember him making a correct analysis of anything baseball related.

The only guy on that show who ever says anything sensible is Gammons. Every now and then Buster Olney makes a guest appearance and I like him too but Kruk, Phillips and Baker all need to take a hike and do "First Take" or something like that.

Also, I'm going to back Simmons and say that Elijah Dukes needs his own show on ESPN. In fact, if he took over for Kruk that would work too - as long as he promises to smoke crack before each and every show.
