I wanted to try Acanac ..., but it's so unstable.

It's a 50/50 chance it will work, regardless of the DSL modem.

How do you figure its 50/50? They have 40,000 customers in Ontario and Quebec.

From my experiences, using Acanac at two different places, in two different cities, it was Bell fucking with my system after I switched that caused any problems. They were mad that I switched, so they messed my lines, and caused my speed to drop, the first time I switched. This time, no problems at all, just super fast speeds.

BTW - I don't work for Acanac, I was just so sick of Bell, that I will help anybody switch over.

I would love to switch ... but really iffy on it. God damn, how am I gonna get a modem, those things are like $100.00

try out teksavvy.

getting a modem isn't that expensive actually. those 2wire modems that you can get at some small computer stores are really cheap. something like 25-30$

My acanac one was not working, and I called in for some tech help, and he just told me to use my old Bell modem; popped in the new username/password, and worked instantly. I think I even have a couple old ones laying around, lol.

unfortunately I'm with Rogers so I'd have to purchase a DSL modem.. any suggestions?

Oh too bad. I suggest just going with what ever they give you. They will charge a $50 deposit for the modem, which you can get back if you return it. If you can as for just a modem, without the router, then do that, as most routers from ISP's suck anyways, and you want to use your own.

So guys, today I broke the LCD screen on my N82 while changing housings. Tiny little crack at the very top in the middle. Hardly noticeable, but enough to drive me to drink.

Fuck me.

$40 for another LCD on the way. Sucks, but live and learn. I could never be a surgeon.

ON ANOTHER NOTE, I currently have 2 netbooks sitting here.

An Asus EEE 1000HA, and an HP Mini 1000 (1035NR).

(Asus on the left, HP on the right)

The EEE's keyboard sucks. Period. It's awful. A horrific bilingual clusterfuck of epic proportions. Nothing is properly sized, and many keys are just, wrong. All wrong. Nice machine otherwise, but I think it's ugly as all hell. It's getting returned.

The HP on the other hand, is perfect in almost every way. Slim, nice to look at, very light (2.25lbs!), and still rocks the 10" screen. Has Bluetooth too. The only drawback is the 1.8" 4200rpm hard drive, but that's not a concern of mine. I didn't buy these things for speed, I bought them for travelling and light internet/work stuff. The HP's keyboard is the same size of that on my old 13" laptop, which I have since given away. It's got that WWAN SIM slot too...

How the hell did you fuck up on the housing replacement? You didn't follow a video guide?

Even though I take the Treos apart 1000x, it's good to have the video running while i'm doing it ... sometimes i get to confident and try to cut corners, some whacked out shit happens and almost fuck up my unit for good.

$459 for the EEE, $494 (after pricematch) for the HP.

I have played with the Wind. Bilingual keyboard, so that's no good for me. 6-cells are nearly impossible to get, and the 3-cell models are lithium ion based (my HP is lithium polymer, superior for these applications).

I followed Nokia's own disassembly instructions. When it comes to removing the screen, all it says is basically "Be careful and pray that you don't break it."

The keypad is all fucked up now too. I've taken phones apart before, and I've never, ever seen anything like this. The phone is built like a brick shithouse. So intensely well put-together. Definitely NOT ever meant to be tampered with.

The parts pictured here, taken from the manual, are seriously about HALF of which are actually in the goddamn phone. There's way more inside than this shows.

So, if I have somehow knackered the phone up really badly even after I replace the screen (I really fear I may have done so), I'll be in the market for another. I hate the fact that they haven't gone down in price in over a year. Not even a bit. UGH

Maybe I'll just get a G1 or something equally stupid.
