I don't agree with this war on terrorism, invading other country's and so forth. Terrorism is here to stay whether we like it or not. It will never be stopped. There will always be some sick bastard who wants to kill people because their beliefs are not like ours. If it was war on terrorism why the hell did america invade iraq(apart from all the oil), because they had weopons of mass distruction. YEAH WHATEVER. While everyone was fighting over there the bloody koreans are making nukes and no one seams to care. I'd be more worried about them than anyone else, and bloody osama is still strolling around(or driving a taxi) trying to figure out who to bomb next.

Aslong as races have different beliefs there will always be terrorism.

What about isreal/palestine. Loads of innocent people die there all the time, it's a lot worse that what happens in the us, but the israeli's don't go behaving in the same way that some ignorant and arrogant americans do!

Anyhow, i am by no means jusding all americans, only a select few who posted in this thread.

My grandfather, who is one of the most amazing people I've ever known, risked his life defending your country. He was a medic and carried wounded American and Australian soldiers back to the medical stations, and also drove an ambulance. He was decorated for bravery after the war for pulling out so many dozens of men and saving their lives.

Thank you all for your gratitude. He might have saved one of your uncles or grandfathers.

Australians have fought with americans in many wars, and no doubt saved their lives, so i could just as easily turned around and said the same kind of thing.

Either way, i'm sort of lost, what exactly does your grandfather's war experience with aussies have to do with what erin is saying about 9/11

My cousin was in the Army, he said he loathed training with American troops; He and his comrads continuously had to help them out for the US were poorly trained.

I agree with much of what you said honestly.

I'm the last person you will see blindly defending the US, because I can now see it's many cracks and fault lines in it's foundation.

The war in AFG. was backed by most of the entire world world however, and it was not a preemptive war. I thus supported that war. It's sad that so many Afghan civilians died, but imo we didn't have much of a choice in the matter. The taliban were also offered a deal to turn over Bin Laden before they were attacked...We couldn't just sit there, and do nothing in the face of his continued terrorist operations in that country.

I was however against the Iraq war from the start, and believe it to be the epitome of hypocracy on the part of the USA. We are invading a country without most of the support of the world, and forcibly removing it's leader under the pretense that he had "weapons of mass destruction" ready to use at any moment. This has (as of the time I write this) proven to be a fallacy. The Bush Admin. made it seem as if there were an imminent threat from Iraq, but as the search for weapons has gone on, no "weapons of mass distrucion" have been recovered to date.

Twice as many civilians have died in Iraq as in the Sept. 11th attacks. Just because they aren't americans or "westerners" doesn't mean it doesn't make me angry to see and read reports of innocent people killed in bombings or shot to death in their own homes etc. My cousin is over there as a marine. God forbid he's gunned down little children or any other innocent people. I'd hate to be in his shoes because that will be on his conscience for the rest of his life (to kill someone).

With the bombing of the UN however, I believe this shows the type of people that we in the western world are dealing with now. To bomb an aid agency who are only there to help people who cannot help themselves is beyond my comprehension. The heart of someone who would do that must be made of stone.

The sad truth is that much of the media in the US is jingoistic. You only need to turn on fox news or msnbc to see for yourself. There is also great voter apathy, and I think people are just too trusting of their leaders. People talk about how corrupt Mexico is, but there are so many US politicians who are bought and sold to various special interests that they could hardly be counted. Perhaps many are just too busy with jobs, children, running their lives, etc. to read between the lines. It's still not really an excuse however. I consider voting to be sacred, and half of Americans don't even care. They should!

My first post was directed towards those people showing extreme disrespect in this thread.

If any of you guys make a Bali bombing thread, I would never show the kind of disrespect to those who died that some of you all are exhibiting in this and other threads.

It's so easy to hate, but it takes real courage to love.

The point that most Americans in this thread were trying to make wasn't that they care so much if you do anything to remember or even think about it cuz obviously most Americans don't observe the Bali Bombings or whatever other horriffic event occured in the past. What they were trying to say is that to not make light of it and make a mockery of it simply because it doesn't affect you. Saying shit like, I'll remember it cuz I play golf or some other shit is fucked up. And I know there is always gonna be a couple of insensitive pricks that you can't do anything about. My point being, if someone made a post in the NY thread about the Bali Bombings and they made a mockery of it... I would tell them that that's fucked up too. Believe that.

Also, saying shit "like America is arrogant" is doing the same thing some of you were complaining about Americans in here doing by generalizing and calling Australians certain names. If you hate Bush and American foreign policy, fine (about half of Americans don't like it either). But saying oh well America kills people all the time with their foreign policy so the World Trade Center attacks are justified (or whatever your argument is) is a bogus comment too. The people in the Twin Towers were just like you and me... not the people at the top of American government making the calls around the world.

I only had to post because of all the Aussies I've met while travelling, every one of them was so cool and genuine and most of these responses came rather as a shock.

Even though our government leads us into war with you frequently, a LOT of people don't support it or what the US does/How they act towards the rest of the world.

The thing is, i don't think anyone was bagging the sept. 11 victims, nearly everyone (including me) said that they were sorry that people died, don't support the bombings, were just as shocked as everyone else (in some cases, some saw it coming), NO ONE was having a go at the dead vistims, australians died there as well.

What most people objected to was the way that (mainly erin) came in here "REMEMBER FOREVER, NEVER FORGET" etc, when there are SO many other conflicts in which people constantly die, many of which are america's own doing. In fact, the way some of them americans were acting made THEM appear insensitive to the other conflicts, and when some of them were asked to name dates of the bali bombings , which was just as important to us (Although we dont go on and on about it), they couldnt.

In summary, no one had a go at the victims at all, as some of the americans suggested.

i wasnt the only one shocked by the first few pages of this thread. i see nothing wrong with coming in here and asking you to respect the victims. the aussies brash response was not warranted in my opinion, i was simply asking for you guys to not make light of it. and i'm sorry austrialians died in 9/11 too, it was a tragedy that affected all our world.

so i'm sorry if you think i'm such a nasty and rude person. but i don't think me defending this event makes me that at all. i am aware of all the other horrors that go on in the world (bali bombings...etc), but yesterday was september 11 so i wanted a thread to remember it.

i hope all those who think i am so mean will reconsider, cuz if you knew me, thats the farthest thing from the truth.
