haha Emery the pic above is the shirt that I was wearing which he signed after his set.

I gave him a new shirt at the beginning of his set. At first he thought I wanted him to sign it but I go "Its for you!"

First time seeing Paul Van Dyk, and it was worth it. What can I say that hasn't already been said? Great tunes, great vibe...awesome seeing all the TAs as usual: Thanks for the beer RJ Glad you had a great night Victor (AKA Caesar V)..glad to meet another Hamilton TA who can hook up with me for future parties. It was also great talking to the American couple(can't remember your names, sorry) who drove several hours to get here..great conversation at the meet up...glad you love TO and the scene here etc...There's many more tranceaddicts I was glad to see and chat with. The pre-party meet ups are always great.

Empire is such a BOSS tune...I was glad he dropped that, one of the hilights of the night. Man...does PVD pitch that shit up or what! Every tune must be up at least 5-10 BPM. Very fast and pumping. Too bad I was tired (worked lots this week)...I was feeling my energy level trickle off just over halfway through his set.

Kool Haus is by far the best venue. The decor, the stage, the lighting, the sound...the crowd...meh, the meat heads and the general hottness and crowdedness can be overlooked on great events like that.

Really dissappointed I didn't get to see Deep Dish..they are great, I've also never seen them before.

Peace,
Drew

OMG.. what a night. PVD's set was awesome! Loved every minute of it. My first time seeing him and he did not disappoint. At times the bass seemed just a bit too much for the KH speakers but that's not PVD's fault. After PVD we headed over to guv for DD. It took a while to get into the groove for DD's chilled-out style of prog (not easy after PVD's pounding set) but we had a great time hanging out in the lounge (GoldClub lounge??). We went back to KH to catch some of Mark's set before heading home, he was awesome as usual. Definitely a night to remember. There were TAs' everywhere I looked, great seeing you all. Samhouse (sorry, I didn't catch your real name) thanks for coming over and introducing yourself. Alan, loved the shirt, I'm glad you were able to have it autographed by the man himself. Well, it looks like everyone had a great time and that's what really matters. See ya'll at the next event.

WOW! )#@&*%!)*$@!!! Speechless. This reminds me of the first time I saw Paul in 2001 except it was better! You all fucking own like no tomorrrow! I need a time machine to relive this night constantly over and over again. Tunage! People! Everything was awesome! Allan, I was the one who convinced you to give the shirt to Paul to begin with man remember?! Congrats on getting everything signed. I can't wait to hear the number one dj for trance back in TO again. This was utter madness!

USMC, Cyrus King, hardcore trancer: I began with "Unspoken" by Spacediver after PVD's incredible set (talk about a tough act to follow!). I've been playing the vocal version for the past few months, but opted for the instrumental mix last night which seemed more approptiate as Paul left the stage.

Durafei: I guess you seem to catch me on the wrong nights. Sometimes, I'll play a few hours of trance to end a night. Other times I'll bang it out a bit more to maintain high energy in the room. Much of it depends on how I see the crowd responding. Everyone has different musical preferences. Some like to "go hard or go home" while others may want a more chilled end to the festivities.

The Thanksgiving party was never advertised as a "Trance" night even though PVD and I both play that style. Personally, I feel that 9 hours of any one particular sound becomes monotonous and I know many people who feel that 9 consecutive songs within the same style can lead to boredom. Then again, said people have the attention spans of squirrels.

If PVD had played the full 9 hours alone, I'm sure he would throw much more than trance into the mix. Even within his 3 hour set on Sunday, he seemed to explore sounds other than traditional trance.

I could always play the same sound as the guest before me, but that's just not me. If you like hearing an early morning trance set from me, it would probably be best if you came on a night when I have a non-trance guest DJ playing beforehand or perhaps on a night when I'm flying solo.

-------------

For those asking about the technical aspects of Paul's set, 80% of it was played on Final Scratch and the rest on the CDJ 1000s. I didn't see him with any vinyl; although, he may have played some while I was hiding backstage so that he would HAVE to play longer than his scheduled 2.5 hours. I must say it looks like Final Scratch is here to stay and I've never heard it sound so good. Then again, the music was coming straight from PVD's laptop rather than my friend's downloaded files!

It was great to see everyone having a blast over the anniversary weekend. Thank you all for showing the BIG BOYS what a strong scene we have. Both Armin and Paul were well-impressed and look forward to returning ASAP.

I'm not criticizing Mark at all, but I'm just curious at his choice of music at the end of Trance parties.

u can't exactly say that it was a trance party now can u. PVD is NOT a trance dj. he calls himself an EDM DJ meaning he can and will drop any electronica that will make u dance. PVD dropped a good mix of trance, breaks, etc that nite... and if u come here in NYC for an 8 hour set he'll give u some techno and prog house too.
