5 L/R? 15 L/R? More? Less?

I know you said slightly so I'm assuming about 5 or so but I'd like to be sure

There's really no real rule to this as far as I'm concerned - just don't overdo it, really. Though as far as snares/claps go, I wouldn't pan them at all (unless you're using multiple ones).

Just spent a little bit of time looking for this thread as I remember seeing it a few weeks back. Just fired up reason today, and was going to give it a try.

Few quick questions..:

1) You add delays/effects to each step (i.e. tamborines, high hats etc.) Do I just add that on Redrum if i'm using reason and route the sounds from each track of redrum in to an effect?

2) Are you going to post something for the breaks/build ups/ fills etc?

Awesome post btw. Thanks!

You don't need to route each channel separately, if you add the delay/effect after the ReDrum it affects the whole thing.

I don't know.

Hopefully . This is one of the most helpful threads on this forum imo. After you follow it once you realize that making good percussions is pretty easy. The hardest part is finding your samples.

Even thought you said that, I still have a question..

As I'm into techtrance, I pay a lot of attention to Sander Van Doorn's work...he really has powerfull percussions.

Let's take THE POLICE/FILTERFUNK - Message In A Bottle (SVD Mix) for example.

Percussions are really driving, kick is powerful, It seems to me, that there is a lot of stuff going on in percs...

Any idea, how to make kick that powerful, and percs so full?

I just don't have any idea for the kick, and I'm really looking forward for your opinion (and of course anybody that has any idea is welcome to contribute here)

Thanks in advance!

Sidechain the kick, maybe some reverb on the percussion as well as sidechaining that as well.

Get the Vengeance sample CDs, and you'll soon find a lot of familiar sounds under the "loops" section.

help

Hi, first of all thanks for the tute.

But I have some questions -

I'm a newb so bare w/me. I'm having trouble replicating the sounds he's using. I understand the timing and all that, but I can't get my hihats or kick to sound the way they do in his basic sample, which is why it doesn't sound right.

2ndly, he says the closed has is off beat, but it sounds to me like it's the open hat? (still referring to the "basic beat") Also, is the tempo 138? And how exactly are the closed hats arranged in that basic beat?

I just want to get the basic beat down first.... b/c that's what everything else is based on.

Thanks!

There isn't an EDM producer alive who couldn't use help with their drums. In case you haven't noticed, most of us (but not me) are nerdy white boys with no soul.
