Zabiela is good technically, but I have a hard time believing he can read a crowd when he is busy scratching, therefore if the crowd is not up him any given night, he is not going to have a good show, great DJs are able to change the mood of the room when they see fit.

Well i was making a comparison based on skill not genre. The genre is irrelevant when it comes to skill. Its like comparing a guitarist from a rock band to a guitarist from a blues band. Sure they are both different genres but the skill stands out regardless what type of music they are playing.

Zabi may be a good "entertainer," but imo that is not the point of being a dj.

If the point of a dj is not to entertain, then what is it?
eating hot dogs?

I actually don't think Paul van Dyk is as over-rated as other trance DJs. He doesn't wreck as often as Tiesto, Corsten and van Buuren, and his choice in music is far more respectable. While the others play the usual generic supersaw trance, Paul mixes in all sorts of other genres.

At least Ferry and Tiesto have their own styles. Armin is just a Tiesto wanabee. There's nothing special about Armin besides his radio show (ASoT), which is only on two hours a week.

Tiesto - don't like his work generally speaking
Above and Beyond - they produce some great tracks, but their sound is quite generic and their ideas have been well tried and tested

I like PvD too, but he 'wrecked' at least 3 times in the last 2.5 hour set I saw him play, and it was very noticeable (machinegunning beats).. saying that though he pulled off more flawless transitions than those others normally would in that time period.

Tiesto can be very diverse too though, often plays alot of progressive (good progressive too, not just the mcprog flavour of the month) and techier stuff... and I'm not that much of a Corsten fan but I've heard he plays alot of electro as well as trance these days.

well can't say I do... I think he's a mediocre dj at best & don't bother checking out his sets often.. only going by what corsten-addicts seem to say on here

I see your points however if you're into 'hands in your air' and 'asot trance' then you're not exactly going to enjoy a dj that spins predominately breaks. And the whole 'read a crowd when he is busy scratching' is such a ridiculos comment. It's not like his eyes are glued to the decks and sratches the entire 2hr set or however long.
