Toronto is the only place ive ever been to with welfare VIP and guest lists.

Anywhere else, being on the guest list means you can get in (and pay full price) as opposed to everyone off the street NOT being able to get in.

Or, it means that you are about to drop $1000 in the place and the club is treating you accordingly.

Toronto's version of the guest list is akin to expecting to get a first class airline seat at half off the price you'd pay in coach.

The one thing that seems off to me, and that is off quite frequently in clubs is that if you have bought a ticket you shouldn't wait in line.

At Sonic I predict there will be..

a)the regular line
b)the guestlist line
c)the "line where people who know the bouncers don't actually wait in line but just come up and get right in" line

It seems ridiculous to me to ask people to buy advance tickets when buying them doesn't even give them the pleasure of avoiding the lineup non-sense, as mentioned above.

I'll pay $4.28 any day of the week, for residents night or headliners if it means i don't have to put up with lineup bullshit.

That goes for any club, not just Sonic.
But if they are the first one to figure out a way to get advance ticket holdlers in first, I'll be first in line.

Well said buddy. Agreed 100%

I've never understood the dislike for this. Certainly if they are greasing the door to skip past, be a little upset, but if those going right in consist of those that have an affiliation with the club, or are regulars to the point of practically living there, then what's the big deal?

You expect them to hold their closest client base outside with their free comps in their hand, waiting for nothing?

From what I know, there will only be ONE line. It will be mixed with people who have advanced tickets, people who will pay when they get in, and people who attempt to grease that bouncers. This is the way it should be. If you come early, you'll get in early. If you risk it and come late, you may wait in line. Jennstar will be running the show at the doors, and I can assure you there will be no shady business with entry. She wants everyone to get in there, promptly and efficiently with no hassle.

Guys, there are three options you can choose from as to how you want to attend Sonic. What I suggest is pick which of those three options best suits you, and stop debating whether or not the $4.28 is justifiable. If you dont think it is, then contact myself or pay at the door. The club has arranged for online purchases AS ANOTHER OPTION for you to be able to gain ticket access on your own, and bottom line - you still save $5 off the door price.

Everyones opinion is valued, and trust me, management reads the boards and takes your comments seriously. Let's wait for the club to actually have it's doors open first, then voice your opinions as to how your experience was, and stop talking about how you think it will be.

^ I think the opening (or re-opening rather) of the Spadina venue has given us an outlet to vent on all the problems and woes of clubland.

Don't take it so personally Sonic! We love you, and we want you to be perfect.

Again, from a management/ ownership point of view, these criticisms must be awesome. I'm sure they think we're all whiny assholes, but fuck there are some awesome points made in this thread.

Clubland, you’re welcome! (fuck)

It was amazing to hear - sounded like a studio remix.

I didn't say that they weren't good.
I said that custom fit ones will always be better.

Jeff, weren't you the one bitching about TIL's line up and how unorganized it was?

David is a hell of a DJ and producer, that's all I know. Some of his remixes are my favorite records of all time: the De La Soul - Saturday remixes are a perfect example of a track that was made a zillion times better by the remix, yet somehow still keeps the spirit of the original track intact.

I have watched and heard him DJ many times, some good, some bad, but mostly good. I was in the booth watching him work at the launch of Stereo in Montreal many years ago (when it first opened) and he did stuff with a jocelyn brown record during a mix that pretty much freaked me out.. Whether he takes his shirt off or not is immaterial. The guy is talented, has been around a long time, and is IMO is one of the top 5 DJs in the world since the invention of the 1200.
