Any response to my self-quote? Or was that disclaimed and therefore doesn't count? That's pretty narrow of you to expect responses that are packaged in your special way.

That's great that you admire Malek for how he "stands on the issue" of the arrests made, but how about his stand of limiting the Charter of Rights and Freedoms? (which is his more important argument; the other is an obvious moral response that I'm sure EVERY TOTA feels).

I'm not insinuating that you promote or support terrorism. I know you, and I know your position on life/freedom/morals/etc. You're a great guy and I respect you a lot.

I find it odd that someone who is vocal and passionate about this issue has neglected to make singular statement that firmly and directly condemns this domestic situation (without then adding additional statements that seem to deflect responsibility).

Again - I'm not insinuating that you promote or support terrorism.

Malek shares many of your opinions - although he makes his position on the current situation very clear, and he does it as a point within itself: there is no reasonable explanation or rationalization for terrorism - it is inexcusable behavior, regardless aggravating factors.

Sorry if I offended you. I apologize. This is simply a political discussion.

Actually Fay, you're not that bad at all, you were grouped with another individual of radical beliefs, and it was too sleepy last night to clarify. You're alright in my books, but the other, in the past, simply responded to my questions with questions to other topics as responses and repetitive ad hominem provocations leaving this individual, who predominantly hangs around TA for the political threads and not much else, with neither credibility nor respect.

We shouldnt be in Afghanistan,Canada is known for it is peacekeeping missions not fighting combats like how they are in Afghanistan today.
I have a feeling we will be involved in more U.S fuckups in the near future simply because this cowboy wants to close to the Americans so bad.Canada will never be the same unfortunatly.

We have been in afghanistan since 2001 when the LIBERALS put us there.

Malek, in all seriousness, if you want to do your paranoia AND this country a favour, next time you see these "taliban types" (btw, what's a "taliban type"? Someone with a long beard and a white turban?) why don't you strike up a conversation with them? You're a confident guy, and honestly, I'd defend you like my brother if any shit got stirred up--I'll back you up with my Saudi connections! Seriously, TALK to them...don't fear them! Be friendly. If they ignore you and treat you like shit, then yeah, you've got a point, but most of the time these are kids who are just as open-minded, friendly, and intelligent as you and I. Don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch!
I volunteer every Friday night for a youth mentorship program at a mosque near my house in Scarborough (since university) and I know several Afghani kids (15-23) who wear the white thobe and turban to their PUBLIC school everyday and have long beards. They are among the most intelligent and peaceful youth I know. I'd vouch for their character in a second; I watched them grow up over the past 8 years.

I'm not affraid a man, i'm affraid of what he can do when our attention is away.

What do you want me to go tell a guy like him, "hey you, where are you hiding the bomb?" hehehehe

Its not serious, these types should be just left out of the country. The Netherlands, a very backward country, added an "integration" criteria in their immigration process. I think we can and should do the same.

That's the function of our courts...so give it time...they can't say anything ahead of time...it compromises any trial that may occur.

As our Police Chief stated...apprehending alleged criminals is only part of the process...to successfully prosecute is entirely another matter. The need to inform the public and the need to ensure due process must be balanced...we do not have an unlimited "right to know" everything in an immediate manner.

Given the amount of time the authorities claim to have put into this investigation, I think it's safe to assume that there a LOT more to their case than just a fertilizer purchase (that's THREE TONS, btw).

While we *must* presume innocence, until proven otherwise...I'm curious, given the preliminary info, why you appear to be so skeptical of the charges? Do you really believe that the RCMP and various police forces would invest this much time and energy into nothing?

come on...

in this day and age, if you even JOKE about a bomb within earshot of anyone at an airport, you're taking away in cuffs and charged...if these guys were even half-heartedly up to something and the threat wasn't "imminent"...at what point do authorities step in? Do we wait for a act to be carried out?

I'm all for due process...but I'm stunned that anyone would be terribly skeptical about the actions of our authorities in this particular case, given the preliminary info that's been made available.

Chief Blair: The people's chief

Just watched an excellent press conference with the Chief at the Islamic Foundation of Toronto (the mosque I volunteer at).

Some excellent questions raised and excellent answers from the Chief and various leaders of the Toronto Muslim community. I hope some of you got a chance to watch that on CBC Newsworld; it was live just now.

RJ, the only reason I took offense is because you used the word, "inconsistency". I disagree with you because no matter how I construct my responses, it should remain a fact to everyone who knows me that I will CONSISTENTLY denounce the acts just like Malek did.

In fact, I did denounce the act categorically and I'm not sure how I undermined my position (or was "inconsistent" in your terms) with the rest of that post.

Anyway, I'm not gonna dwell on it. I think that Hardcore can be pretty blunt and aggressive in his language but if you take the time to carefully discuss the topics in a politically correct way (which I understand is not necessary--one of the beauties of TA imo) I'm sure you'll respect and understand Hardcore the way I do. He's harmless, really.

LOL no, silly, you know what to ask. Break the ice by showing them sympathy for their situation (even if you don't feel any) by how Islam is being connected with terrorism unfairly (even if you don't believe that). Once you break the ice, you talk about their background, are they from Canada, where do you go to school, is there a mosque they know of that you can attend (I know you're not a Muslim, but these are the ways you can get more information to make yourself feel better, PLUS if there's anything sneaky you feel, report it to the police!)

In that program I just watched, the Muslim leaders and Chief of police asked the Muslim community AND the general community to do their part and not isolate the FAMILIES of the accused, but to approach them and embrace them; give them spiritual, economic, and general support. They have also been traumatized by this ordeal.

If they slam the door in your face, that's one matter but they shouldn't, if they are true Muslims. They will welcome you and hug you and cry with you.
