i don't think it's all that abnormal. teens are full of raging hormones. not to mention they are very rebellious and experimental, not just with sex, but with everything... from drugs and alcohol, to the way they dress, to lifestyle choices such as music, sports, and groups of friends. it's the time of your life when you're trying to figure out who "you" are.

when it comes down to it, most kids at that age (15-16) are experimenting with their first relationships, falling in "love" for the first time, and regardless of what the media or their parents tell them to do, they're going to do whatever they want. if anything, i think it's most important that they are well-educated on sex (safe sex, STDs, pregnancy, etc) so that they are smart enough to make the right decisions.

regardless of what society thinks, i may have been young when i lost my virginity... but i was in love, i waited a while for it to happen, and the relationship lasted for a very long time. i have no regrets whatsoever, and i feel that i took every step in protecting myself and making sure i made the right decisions. i don't consider that to be "alternative" or "bad" behavior.

i knew girls in 8th and 9th grade (that's like the 14/15 year old range) who were having sex with their older sophomore boyfriends and i thought it was fucked up even though i was their age. i was terrified to lose my virginity and i couldn't believe all my friends were doing it freshman year with their senior boyfriends. not that i was THAT much older...i lost mine in the beginning of 11th grade to my very serious boyfriend at the time, but looking back, i realize i was not ready at all for the emotional baggage that comes along with having sex.

i really think that teenagers in high school are way too young for sex, but i know it's never going to change. i think like 18+/college is a better age for losing virginity and exploring sexuality in a safe way.

that's why if i have a daughter, i'm sending her to an all girls prep school instead of coed public. i know that sounds ridiculous, but i really think same sex education would solve a lot of problems with teenagers today. high school has become a social gathering, not a place to learn. i believe in uniforms n stuff like that.

I totally agree with you. Although I would prob. send my kid to a private school... those all girl and all boys schools tend to "sometimes" make situations worst... seen it happen with bunch of friends and relatives that have gone to all "girls" and "boys" schools.. the main principle comes deep within the foundation of the family tbh.
