Pfff there is a lot of Tiesto Bashing going around here on this thread. And for what reason?
I have listened to the cd serveral times now and I have come to a few conclusions:
1. The tracks are all very well produced and most of them are quite good (Ten seconds before sunrise, Everything and Bright Morningstar remind me of ISOS2 and that is a good thing )
2. Having said that, the influences of BT are very well audible. Bright Morningstar, which really is a superb trancer especially during the build up, seems to be a BT production. Anyone who has heard the latest BT album will concur
3. The album is not aiming at just us trancelovers but is aiming for a most wider audience.
There are some very catchy commercial tracks (which some of us here like to refer as dog shit etc etc) on it such as the collab with BT "break my fall" the superb summer track Everything with Jess (and yes Tiesto really borrowed the leadsound and almost the same notation from Lucid's BT remix of Dreaming ) Those tracks might not appeal to the so called genius producers of TA who can of course all do better than Tiesto, but they will appeal to a big audience who just listens to music for what it is.
4. As the album continues Tiesto loses a bit of direction. Up till Bright Morningstar I feel I am listening to a high class EDM album after that track it feels like Tiesto doesn't know which way to go anymore so he fills the album with (potential) hits. Those hits are not that bad besides the current single "In the dark" but they do not seem to fit well on the album that is presented to us up till track nr 7.
5. Tiesto's artist album is a lot more creative and better produced than Armin's last artist album and also better than that of PVD. Of the big DJ's in this world only Ferry Corsten surpasses Tiesto's producing skills although I am not found of Ferry;s direction of late.
I am not as pretentious to think that I as a producer can come close to producing the tracks like Tiesto has done here on Elements of Life. Yes one can argue that his melodies are sometimes very very simple or way too catchy. But when people here are claiming the tracks suck and they are poorly produced I dare those people to try to produce on such a level themselves.
Cheers!
