You have one of the Phelps daughters in one of your classes?

That must be quite an experience.

Arbiter I totally agree with you I think that there are far to many disturbed young people. The question is why? There is an empidemic of violent youth. It the combination of easily available weapons and disturbed people that causes these kind of things! Should have been more clear in my post.

Well, they were less common.

In any case, blaming "easy access to guns" is about as productive as blaming the people of New Orleans for living in an area where flood water has "easy access" to their homes and businesses.

Jack Thompson has been all over Fox News this afternoon saying that the shooter was trained by video games.

Leave it a prick like that to take every opportunity to capatalize off a tragedy.

Personally I think the shooter was just following the example of Dick Cheney.

How the news media thinks it's even OK to speculate about details like that is beyond me - especially as early as it was occurring, when relatively little was known (as if there is a ton known now, right?) about the nature of the shootings.

Indeed. Strange gal. Pretty nice, however, and she never discusses any personal stuff in class (nor would I ever care to ask). No excuse for what she and her family does, mind you, but I keep the school person separate from the personal one so we can all get through the program (well, actually all I care about is me getting through the damn program). But I digress.

Check the press conference on CNN's Pipeline I linked to a few posts back. It's going on right now and the media is doing an absolute shitload of assuming. The officer and the VT president have to keep telling them to quit making assumptions.

It's quite simple. Americans allowed guns to be [almost] freely available. This sort of thing is bound to happen.

There are nutters everwhere in the world, and if guns are freely avalable then this just exacerbates the issue.

Like I said, it was bound to happen [again].

It will happen again in the future.

I'm sorry to say that it's America's (as a nation) fault.
