does TA drama harm the scene in any way? does it serve a purpose? should it try to be stopped, and could it?
I don't know what you consider to be 'drama'. There hasn't really been any real drama on here in a long time -- oddly enough, there was waaayyy more drama years ago (i.e. when ppl still used the words rave/plur). These days you just have the occasional troll come in and post something that draws attention. Most of the 'regulars' are either very set in their ways or just choose not to openly voice their opinions since it could cause drama within the inter-connected world of their TA/peer group. The newbies have no such allegiance and if they're ballsy they'll counter the consensus (vivid boy style) or fly under the radar by just +1'ing the old schoolers. Besides, if you censor the bad, add a bunch of rules or restrict the free/open discussion of opinion then all you're doing is living in a (boring) bubble aka "OMG DJ _____ is the bestest ever" repeated 500 times.
People love TA as long as the majority of what they read agrees with their opinion --OR-- if they're 'getting something' from their participation on the forum. That 'something' is varied -- from making new friends to excessive promotion that borders on spam (Give em an inch, they take a mile).
People hate TA the instant they can't handle reading bad things (about them/others/their DJ/their preferred genre) or aren't able to take from TA what they wish -- it's at that point where the animosity/bitchfest begins - either against specific ppl or the site in general.

Some people tend to act "tough" on the internet. It's a lot easier to do when you're sitting infront of a computer and not face to face.

Drama is tame now compared to a few years ago.
