Look, you aren't some wise codger on your high seat, rhythmically stroking a well-groomed piece of facial hair in some stoic sort of reserved temperament. You don't get to play that "you assume too much, grasshoppah" card, so just drop it.
Also, stop taking argumentative tips from donnybrasco. It's not very becoming.
I like you, so I'll humour your question to some degree, in hopes that it is unsatisfactory as always. What do I get out of this? Scarce much whatsoever. But what do people get out of any conversation? A sense of righteousness or a challenge to their own views - a sense of community, perhaps some sort of reinforcement? Who can really say? I don't have some need to have the last word or to always be right, I just wish everyone else to take a step back and realize that they are wrong or that there are perspectives just as valid as their own [though this does not in fact say much]. Do you think I am on some sort of crusade to educate the people who already know this? Is this why you take such objection to so-called soapboxing? Because you are a jaded prick with that awesome "well I already knew that" attitude? To use your own phrase:
No, I didn't expect you to be an irrelevant twat to him. Why would I expect that? I don't go into threads saying to myself "welp, I bet RJT will be by here any ol' time to be a random asshole, because that's just how he rolls!" I think you're letting your own self-appraised reputation get the better of you. However, I do find your challenge to seemingly irrelevant subversion quite predictable. Your subscription to antidisestablishmentarianism is quite celebrated, I am sure.
The brass tacks now? I've already gone through this, but being in the military does not entitle you to special consideration. Every member of my immediate and former family has been a part of the armed forces. I hold no illusions that they somehow led a more challenging or enriching life due to this. It's just a fucking job, and one that people should be far more educated on anymore due to the very large amount of public information and media regarding the lifestyle as well as the apparent imperialistic aims of a nation that can hardly grasp the collective support of anyone not proselytized by patriotic ramblings and propagandist aims. Maybe you don't agree with me. Whatever. But why is there an automatic degree of respect for people who volunteer to die for, uhhh.... SAND? That hardly seems a worthy endeavor, and I am far less to have respect for someone who so willingly makes an idiot decision like that. So sorry.
Further, I am not inclined to give a shit about someone on a forum whom I've never heard from before. Nobody seems to be able to answer the "WHO THE FUCK IS STEELWOLF???" question, so I'll just go ahead and assume [gasp!] that nobody actually fucking knows. I am somehow even less inclined to care at this point. It's as though somebody joined the forum and made a thread whining about how their girlfriend left them that very day. Wouldn't they be ripped to shreds? It would appear as though the military status of the person is what is making the difference here. Yet nobody seems capable of justifying it other than merely stating that respecting troops is the right thing to do because....the right thing to do is to respect troops. |
Spirit5, you forgot to log out Halcyon+On+On
Again, so much text to repeat what you've already said countless times (and even in this very thread!), and really still not say all that much. Nice work, I bet that took you all day to come up with!
So what have we learned here?
- You don't care for people in the army and that any suffering they endure, they deserve because it's their lot in life.
- You really don't give a fuck for anyone who you don't "know" (which I'm still trying to figure out just how you define - because if you posted anywhere but c0r you'd see that SteelWolf posts at least relatively regularly in other forums).
Look, all that text summed up in two nice little statements.
And as far as you and I getting in a "tiff" once a month? No m8, I've just learned that I really don't like you very much, period - and I don't expect that to be some big "Aww shucks, RJT don't like me?" moment, I rather assume you couldn't possibly care less.

Edit: I do, however, find it cute that you'd spend that amount of time on me.
