Personally, i don't know how some of the athletes do it.

Going in to Olympics with a goal of being in the top 50 or something along the lines like that wouldn't feel very rewarding.

Yes it's an accomplishment to just be in the olympics, but for training hard for 4 years just to get in the top 50 doesn't seem like it would be something I could do...

Competing in the olympics is a dream for most athletes, how can you say something like that?
you realize not many athletes from around the world make it to the olympics, so OF COURSE IT'S REWARDING to be in the top 50 IN THE WORLD.

it should be rewarding to go to the olympics....and being in the top 50 shouldn't be rewarded....being in the top 10 should.

When tax payer money goes to these athletes then we as tax payers deserve something for our money....and I am sorry but top 50 isn't a reward for my money.

It is obvious that many of our sports programs are miles behind other countries....there is no reason we shouldn't be on the same level as countries like Australia....and don't give me the excuse of our winters....these athletes train all year round and in other countries....so winter is not an obstacle.

When Mark Tewksbury (sp?) still has the canadian record for the 200m backstroke it just shows how pathetic are swimming program is...its been 12 years and we haven't been able to produce one swimmer who can make that swim faster.

When the best fencer we have is a 50 year old lady who just started training a year ago is sad....when the best skeet shooter we have is a 57 year old lady who shakes more then I do without my morning coffee is sad.

Heck...we are bringing back Ian Miller for his 9th olympics so he can disgrace himself and his horse by finishing in the top 50.

None of this make me proud to be canadian...it makes me sad that we this is the best we have to offer the world.

I think they only get paid if they win a medal.

US Olympians gets 25,000 for gold. 15,000 for silver. 10,000 for bronze. Then they get a bunch of endorsements.

They do get paid if they win a medal but we also fund these programs with our tax dollars.
