This just in:
The WBC, famous for thier websites godhatesfags.com, godhatescanada.com, etc, etc are planning to picket the funeral for Tim McLean, the man spontaneously murdered aboard a Greyhound bus last week.
You can see the news release
HERE
There's got to be some way to keep these ******s out of Canada.
Anyways, here's a letter I wrote them this morning:
| quote: |
To the people of WBC,
While I do not support your position, views, actions or rhetoric, I value the freedom of speech and freedom of assembly afforded to citizens of both our countries.
However, as a Canadian citizen, allow me to say that you have no right to come to my country for the sole purpose of harassing the family of Mr. McLean while they are still struggling to come to terms with his horrible demise. Mr. McLean is a victim of a horrible crime and does not deserve such disrespect.
I suggest instead that you focus your efforts on the perpetrator of this heinous act.
Press exposure notwithstanding, there is nothing to be gained from subjecting the McLean family, and the people of Canada, to a protest outside Tim's funeral. Tim was by all accounts a decent man, singled out by his killer for protecting a female friend of his from unwanted advances by the accused.
I ask you to validate your actions, to explain on record why you feel Tim and his family deserve such denegrating attention from your parish. I ask you to step out from behind the rhetoric and explain what it is you hope to gain by picketing the victim's funeral.
I do not agree with, but understand your protesting of funerals for fallen soldiers of the Iraq war, the contentious issue that it is.
Tim was not a soldier or a homosexual, so what is it about this young man you find so offensive as to warrant such an insult?
What right do you have to come to my country for the purpose of hurting a good man's family?
What right do you have to bring your hatred and fear to my country at all?
If you're only intent is to cause anguish to an already torn family, I ask you to stay home and re-evaluate where your time, energy and money could be better spent furthering your cause.
If your only intent is to cause anguish to an already torn family, I hope you are stopped at the border and refused entry to my country. You will not be welcome here.
I look forward to your response,
David Spencer

Right now, I encourage everyone to hit their website and send them a letter. Or, you could throw some money at a play based on Pastor Phelps, composed mainly of direct quotes by the preacher.
'The Pastor Phelps Project' opens tomorrow at The Cameron House, Queen West.
| quote: |
From Citynews.ca
The play's the thing that has a controversial U.S. pastor in the middle of a theatrical protest.
A Toronto play based around anti-gay crusader Pastor Fred Phelps is set to open in T.O. Thursday night, but the provocative figure says he and members of his congregation will also be on hand to picket before the curtain rises.
"The Pastor Phelps Project" will be staged at Queen West watering hole The Cameron House.
Phelps is the spiritual leader at Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. He's also the man behind the website "God Hates Fags" and is notorious for picketing funerals of gay men who died of AIDS.
Given all that history, many were surprised, others not so much at news the pastor would be heading to Toronto to picket the small local production.
Phelps' take on the play?
"'The Pastor Phelps Project' is a tacky bit of filthy sodomite propaganda, with no literary merit and zero redeeming social value, masquerading as legitimate theatre," read a statement on his website. "God hates Canada... land of the sodomites."
The playwright's response?
"All of the text in the play is actually drawn from speeches and quotes," Alistair Newton said. "I'm allowing him to indict himself."
Others are just hoping to avoid confrontation altogether.
"They're a group of people who bring so much hate everywhere they go," said Carey, an actor in the play. "So bringing them to Toronto makes me nervous."
For good reason? Only time will tell.
In the meantime, for more on the play and the controversy behind it, you can click here.
