One of the best thing about Circus was the DJ booth. Everyone I know loved the old location.

Did anyone see the lighting that was brought in for Rank 1? Were you there when Matt Darey played? Have you been there when Joseph Mordeno and I have packed the back room until 4am?

It has been a great time since January and I am not just saying that because I play there. I know a lot of people that appreciate Circus and have the time of their lives there.

Jim's absolutely right!

It irritates me to no end when people who haven't even set foot in the club in the past 6 months if not longer talk crap about Circus.

it's unfortunate for you that i have opinions that last longer than 6 months and am unafraid to state them. your emotional attachment to a building is adorable, however i suggest you get over it as unresolved stress has been proven to be bad for your health and wellbeing. regardless of my unwillingness to continue visiting venues that have no appeal to me on a minimally biannual basis, it appears as if the issues i've highlighted concerning the venue are those shared by others who may have visited in the last 6 months. certainly by those whose job it is to dj professionally around the world. (why do you think spundae left?)

I like the new set-up just for variety's sake, but the old booth certainly was the shit.

Some of my favorite nights back at Circus were back in the Giant days when Pete Tong, DJ Dan, and Anthony Pappa headlined. Anthony Papa had the whole crowd tranced. My friend Nancy and I were dancing in the booth with the photographer. I was 21 or 22 at the time and just loving the whole 21 + nightclub experience coming from the rave scene where you couldn't get your alcohol buzz on. There was such an energy buzz about the nights there. Sometimes the line would be an hour long to get in. I think this was when they did it on purpose to make it seem like the club was over capacity. Don't quote me on that though I've felt that energy and buzz at Circus a few times this past year and that is what I live for. There have been some really good vibes and excitement about the music, people, and DJs at Circus these past 5 months. Love is in the air.

So to anyone who hasn't been to Circus in the past 5 months. I urge you to give it a chance and see what a good time people are having and how great the music is

NO BS. Just good times, good people, and good music. 'Nuff said.

Here's the problemn.

Everyone thinks that by moving where th DJ booth is and adding more lights resolves the issue the DJs/agencies/promoters have with the venue.

It honestly reminds me of the same issueds DJs/agencies/promoteres/ have/had of another venue(s) when it comes to if tey want their top tier talent there...

It's more than that. You can add lights and move the DJ around, but to those who get around and to the DJs themselves, it's (as it
s been directly described to me) PATCHWORK and while temporarely a cool thing, it doesn't take long to realize that it's nothing more than that.

The change all these DJs/agencies/etc want is the PRESENCE that club has and the impact it could have on that DJ and its potential following...

And as far as whtehr the place has been booked, I have been in LA pretty much since mid-February and the city lately seems to be really lacking osome great trance nights other than the up-and-comers Circus is bringin gint....so it's just a good time for Circus to get crowds .... but Cali tends to do really well iwth trance acts near the end of Ibiza season and during the fall/early winter.....let's see if it can continue the crowds then. I hope it does. Seriously. I love Cirucs on its good nights....

***NOTE: Again, this post is of my own accord...and again, Circus has the most potential of any club in LA with the right makeover. BY FAR. But patchwork isn't going to cut it.***

Also add First State, Dutch duo Ralphie B and Sander van Dien. Several of my friends at Trance Energy said it was THE MOST AWESOME set of the whole night. I missed it, but would love to hear them for the first time!

from the audience's point of view yes, it was great to have a dj that close. as i have stated. but for a dj who just flew in from brazil or romania going from seeing beautiful women who look alive and sentient to disgusting washers sweating with their eyes rolled back swaying around like undead creatures of the night, doesn't really inspire sets that stand apart from the rest of their touring schedule. if you're there for the music, it's better that the dj isn't forced to look at that ugliness as if it's sitting across the dinner table from him. only then, from afar, can he or she possibly appreciate the energy of the crowd. it's the same for circus, avalon and vanguard.

i don't see the two as being mutually exclusive.

i pose a criticism and you label it as talking shit. i get your sense of emotional sensitivity to the issue, because there's some truth to what i say. i also understand you're working hard to elevate the status of the club. that's what this thread is about right? but as nothing more than a promoter at a venue, your ability to affect the change needed is limited, and you should recognize that, and in recognizing that you should not take opinions as personal attacks. for your own sake really. as i have stated before, the reason i don't visit circus anymore is because i have no reason to. a reason to would be a lineup that is unique, engaging, cutting edge. as others have stated, your headliners are mostly trance. not only that but the same sound of trance. the last time you had a lineup that drew me through your doors was markus and j00f. since then not only have i not seen anything of that caliber, but i'm just not all that enthusiastic about big room clubbing any more. whatever you think about that, i'm sure it'll make for some great patio conversation this saturday. whatever, as long as some of this reality sinks in. i'm not here to blow sunshine up your ass.

Behold, my arse.

I was really hoping for some sunshine up my ass.

hahahaha... dude, you sound very bitter. If you're not interested in Circus, then please move along. I just hope I don't lose any sleep over your thoughts & comments. You ramble too much.

Anyway... back to the subject!
