I agree, I read an article about them in Rolling Stone and they had quite an interesting upbringing, much different than most rock bands where it's just a dude and his 3 buddies banging out shit in their uncle's garage and then became famous. They grew up singing in the choir and shit

It isn't that accessible, and many posters here pat themselves on the back for enjoying something that most people don't appreciate. None of this is a bad thing, but it does seem amusing that someone who distinguishes so readily between Luciano and Porter doesn't see a difference between Coldplay and Kings of Leon, two groups with vastly different influences even if their audiences overlap to a great degree. |
See, I don't even think their new album is that bad, but it isn't quite as creative as their others. I actually think the band agrees with this, and thus doesn't find a concert to be that exciting anymore. I'm going to see KOL in Nashville (the lady is a huge fan) and I'm hoping that they bring the house down with lots of oldies and actually play with some emotion and power rather than a "throwaway show" in Montreal. Not every show can have them doing blow off a hooker's ass, blowing up guitars and kicking midgets. Jay caught all kinds of shit for playing a track that Tiesto played, but just because it's popular doesn't mean it's not good music, and I think a lot of people overlook that. "Oh, hundreds of people like KOL because they are mindless sheep and don't know what good music is." I think that's a silly argument, if you like a certain kind of music, then you like it, and people shouldn't say shit about it. Initially I think Jay was bitching about the fact that KOL played like shit, and I'm sure he's right, they're on tour playing shows every 2-3 days, I'm sure it's gonna sound like they're a little bored of it.
Oh well, I think they're a good band, and much better than 90% of rock/grunge bands out there today, and flame me all you want, but I think they have creative songs. They have a much different sound than any band that I've ever heard, and for those saying that they sound like Foo Fighters and Nirvana need to shoot themselves in the face.
