I still believe that the reason why McGuinty chooses to avoid altering the criminal code is because he is truly fearful of it. Quebec is still subject to the same criminal code, but there MMA is legal due to their interpretation of the code. I think that the current Ontario government believes that changing the interpretation of the criminal code pertaining to prizefighting will open some sort of floodgates for other sorts of legalizations.
But the bottom line in this issue is - despite the Ontario government's motives, it shouldn't be up to them to cast MMA aside, it should be a decision of the people (no matter what the cost may be). |
Well we the people have given them the responsibility to act on our behalf and push through legislation that they see fit, based on our wants. These are elected officials. If we gave every yahoo the ability to make up rules, then we would so ass backwards, you would be calling for more control.
I sure as hell do not like McSquinty, and will not be voting for him come election time, but I also realise that sometimes you are just stuck.
