Everyone in this thread has the magical crystal ball...especially the folks playing volatility. Who really here owns (or has access to) a Bloomberg or Reuters terminal?

growth, growth, growth, predominantly small caps with a few mid/large cap high beta names. some stuff has had a great run-up lately so it makes a lot of sense for people to be taking profits right now and thus contributing to the downside movement.

I personally don't see this is an extended lag in the markets, I think a lot of your big money guys are taking profits right now, and it's been very widely publicized/reported that a lot of people (mostly retail money and some less than stellar big money managers) missed the boat on most of the upside movement of the markets this past year. I don't see any reason not to think that this is the entry opportunity that a lot of this money has been waiting to see. Especially given that most of these problems are fiscal in nature. given the institutions that we've developed, such as the imf, world bank, etc etc it doesn't make much sense to me that we'd ever allow sovereign debt to collapse our financial system....not anytime soon at least...we would have to see a default which would trigger a chain reaction, which is still entirely possible, although unlikely I think.

I did some buying today, which I'll continue to do in increments as this market moves down/levels out. From a valuation perspective, there are some things that are becoming quite attractive right now.

one thing I've noticed in markets like this, and this is my first experience dealing with this sort of phenomenon, is that it's interesting to see how margin calls affect price movements in really low volume small cap names. I own a company that's traded OTC and I've seen it happen a couple of times, as soon as the price hits a certain level, the margin call is triggered and a huge sell order is executed, and this usually knocks the price down in excess of 20%. If you're on top of this, it presents a great buying opportunity as these people, or so I've noticed at least with this particular equity, eventually move their way back into the position.

kind of ties into what I said earlier about timing. nobody can time perfectly, but what makes someone a professional investor, to a degree, fund managers in particular, is their ability to move in and out of their holdings and take in incremental profits. I guess it's something that just comes with experience, and living, breathing, eating, and sleeping in the market every day of your life.

best 3 days of my life lol

time to invert and go long. HOU. Might short Gold too.

i would hold out on hou until some sort of bottom forms. July contract tomorrow morning, next weeks report should be a draw. Its all about europe now.

now?? it's been about europe for a while now. i'm going to wait a few days until the price of oil stabilizes around 70 then buy hou. i will likely short a bit of gold and add to it little by little. i'm mostly technically driven, with the most emphasis on rsi and momentum swings, so gold seems like the next big swing downward for the next week or two.

good luck.. im waiting for it to settle a bit. buy before wednesday if we stay above 70 come open tomorrow. Wednesday report should give us a nice boost. I would make a good gamble and say draw for last weeks inventory.

Check out the hang seng. Sea of red in asia and a 400 point drop. Inverse index tomorrow. I'm calling it again.
