My UKG rinseout is ready now as well. Since I spent so much time and effort painstakingly planning out and premeditating the marathon that is Nitro, I wanted to throw all of that out of the window this time, and simply have fun blasting through some tunes on a quick one. The mixing is a bit messier because of this, but nothing too detracting.

Sand Leaper - It's Time To Skip 040512

Wiley dissing Heartless Crew on Rinse FM
Stormin and Hyper from some OLD N.A.S.T.Y set
Bias & Gurley - Roll
Dark Sky - Zoom
Ghost - Two Thousand
Groove Chronicles - 1999
Copasetic - Champion (Version)
MJ Cole - Dawn
Adeva - Don't Think About It (Nu Birth Vocal)
Todd Edwards - Saved My Life (DJ Sneak's Sneaky Flashback Mix)
Nuyorican Soul - Runaway (Armand van Helden's Mongoloids In Space Mix)
Santos - Camels (DJ Zinc Remix)
Agent X - Decoy
DJ Narrows - Saved Soul
So Solid Crew - Woah
Warlock - Dog Step
Octa Push - Doctor Bayard
Sunship feat. MC RB - Cheque One Two
C.R.S.T - Dial The Operator
Geiom - Classic Rewinds
Dusk - Fraction (Kowton Remix)
Point B - E Blade
Stuff from some Pay As U Go Cartel set around 2001
Masterstepz - Melody
Radio intro from Dusk & Blackdown's album Margins Music

A lot more bassline heavy/grime-ier than what I would've done but very nice idea with the radio samples. I don't know if that was your intended goal but it really sounds like a pirate radio episode from the time.

That was the idea, indeed. Good to see it worked out that way for you, too. It was just a small reminder of where the whole UK hype started about 10 years ago.

I personally find the whole atmospheric "future garage" thing to be extremely boring for the most part, so the bassy and stripped down vibe in this mix pretty much represents the kind of UKG I always liked the most since I first caught wind of the genre around 2001 or so. I wanted to find new releases that would gel with the older stuff on that tip, and I think the mix worked out quite well in that respect.

I like the housier, warmer, mostly pre-2000 stuff. The bassline-ey stuff seems to be one of those "you had to be there" things, to me most of it sounds pretty outdated today.

And yeah, ever since James Blake and Mount Kimbie became big amoung the indie-blog-hipster crowd most stuff new and Garage has been ruined. There's a fair share of oldschool-Garage revival going on among labels like Well Rounded (I think you included one of their tracks in your mix) and George Fitzgerald but I find a lot of it not as exciting as the older, pre-2000 stuff.

I think that's mainly because it was to a large extent produced with such rudimentary and crude equipment (So Solid made all their stuff on Playstation or something, if I remember correctly), which of course becomes very clear in the year 2012. At the same time, it forced artists to be creative with the few tools they had, something you don't see very often anymore (which is how So Solid got a big chart hit with 21 Seconds, despite being made on a Playstation and getting a video that probably cost around 100 x more than the tune). I wanted to put some emphasis on that.

A lot of it still holds up very well, too, such as the bassier stuff Wookie made or Horsepower Productions' early material. I didn't want to play that stuff though, as it's been so thoroughly rinsed out by DJs at this point.

No, since there is no point. The deadline has no real meaning, as everyone can extend it themselves, simply by posting something like "Sorry, my mix will be a week late." But nobody did that, so it doesn't seem to be a matter of not enough time.

i was going to upload a version i did on friday but i was displeased with it so i redid it yesterday. forgot to upload and it because i was knackered beyond belief.

anyhow, this genre got to me, i really don't mind it and i enjoy it but i don't care much about it as half of the time it just sounds like mad professor at double tempo and rest of it sounds like really reduced techstep.

so i gathered up some of the tunes i found on juno by having the autonomic podcast as a guide, used three track that i had before that aren't technically "autonomic" but works well in the context and mixed it.

oh and i called it greenland because it's an autonomous region.

Nice little mix Tony, quite enjoyed that. You managed to pick a range of tunes that sounded quite varied so the mix didn't sound samey which is a good thing unlike mine, but having a few tracks outside the bounds of the autonomic sound would help with that too.
Actually I think the track I liked most was the Blu Mar Ten track which I don't think was really autonomic dnb, but man... very nice.
The mix had a nice little progression happening too, clearly starting with some pretty minimal and quirky stuff and easing into some more defined beats and getting more atmospheric in a sense along the way. It flowed pretty well when you consider that the tunes were all quite distinct, I guess this stuff lends itself more to an abrupt and choppy style of mixing moreso than blending and long layering.
Anyway nice work, and happy birthday my friend.

Teezd - really enjoyed your mix dude, have listened to it a few times while working at the computer. It seems to suit late night coding, which to me is spot on for the style hehe.

Zip - top stuff man, not what I was expecting at all. My old housemate played UK hard trance, guyver and teknikal and all that stuff, which has clouded my view of hard trance somewhat. I was expecting massive supersaw riffs and epic breakdowns so was pleasantly surprised. Good stuff.

Jan - that was proper. Growing up in romford I had a very love hate relationship with garage. Listening to the pirates I knew there was stuff I liked out there but all my mates were into the softer, girlier end of things which didn't grab me at all so I kind of gave up on it. This mix was totally the garage sound I liked, top banana.
