the only thing i don't like about when people are discussing vinyl vs. cds is they go to the piracy issue. I'm not a fan of piracy, but when it comes down to it, when people say they want cd-decks they make it no secret the reason for getting them is for loading mp3s on their cds and playing them out (not to say i wouldn't). Just that, even for people that buy cd-decks make it seem that its alreadya given that they'll pirate music, since they say they can't afford vinyl. You CAN buy cd singles, there's plenty, maybe not as much as vinyl but its probably easier to find seeing as how in regular stores they sell them.
However i understand that starting out and not throwing money at vinyl is great since it may just be a thing on the side for some people. I think that cd decks are the future of the genres of mixing (trance/prog/techno all that stuff) seeing as how thats whats mainly done for djs for mixing. You can get precision mixing with cds, plus vinyl won't wear out - they're cds after all. When it comes to battle/hip hop its going to take alot of convincing over time, and it probably will never happen, seeing as how its lasted this long, even with the improved technology - people want to feel the vinyl under their fingers, understandable, but in no way necessary for the mixmaster dj - but more important for the scratcher.
