smitty one of my good friends has anxiety and panic disorder. he smoked a lot ( alot) of weed from like age 12-13, around age 16 he developed his anxiety and started having panic attacks, weed was defenitly helping to contribute to it ( remember weed makes us paranoid). so he didnt leave his house or smoke weed for a couple years. after taking all kinds of meds which were ineffective ( valium, clonazapam etc.) hes back on weed now calling it his wonder cure, he loves it and its all he cares about

so keep smoking it works

btw on a side note, there is a study out saying there is a link between chronic and psyhosis

^^^ blaze away, fellow potheads...but in moderation.

Pot in small amounts curbs depression, study says

THE CANADIAN PRESS

MONTREAL – Cannabis in small doses has some beneficial effects for curbing depression, but too much of the drug can cause the polar opposite effect, a new study suggests.

The neurobiological study conducted jointly by McGill University and a research institute affiliated with the Universite de Montreal indicates cannabis in low doses increased serotonin levels in the brains of laboratory rats.

The depletion of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that controls moods, leads to depression. Anti-depression drugs work by increasing the serotonin in the brain.

However, when the doses were increased on the rats, the effect was described as completely reversed, even devastating. Serotonin levels dropped significantly.

"We know from anecdotal evidence that (human) smokers of marijuana experience good effects ... but they also experience unwanted effects," said McGill PhD student Francis Bambico, who authored the study, which is to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience.

"Some smokers experience anxiety, agitation. But at very high doses and in certain circumstances, it leads into depression-enhancing effects, particularly if you take in a lot of cannabis at very high doses."

Humans using cannabis as an anti-depressant is problematic since it's hard to control the dosage when it is smoked in the form of marijuana joints, says lead researcher Dr. Gabriella Gobbi.

"Our research shows that excessive cannabis use in people with depression poses a high risk of psychosis," Gobbi said in a telephone interview from Italy.

A psychiatrist by trade, Gobbi says she was prompted to conduct the research after noticing several of her patients suffering from depression used to be cannabis smokers.

Rats were injected with a synthesized cannabinoid which worked as a potent anti-depressant at low levels, varying from 0.05 to 0.2 milligrams per kilogram.

But higher doses showed the opposite effects that "totally undid" the anti-depression effects, Bambico said.

Bambico said researchers are focusing their research on a new class of drugs which enhance the effects of the brain's natural endo-cannabinoids – natural substances in the brain that are released during high stress or pain, without the anti-depressive side-effects.

Cannabis has a chemical similarity to endo-cannabinoids.

"It's entirely possible to produce drugs that enhance endo-cannabinoids for the treatment of pain, anxiety and depression," Gobbi said.

If i) I wasn't in school and ii) pot didn't make me paranoid ( ) I'd likely be in the clouds almost everyday. I haven't smoked in 2.5 months...kinda miss it!

I'm actually taking cipralex and clonazapem right now and I've found that I'm definitely feeling MUCH better. I've also stopped doing any drugs whatsoever because no matter what people say, they have negative affects toward your mental health if you're feeling depressed or stressed out (which I am frequently but such is life). I'd rather not be taking SSRI's but cipralex is apparently quite effective in treating anxiety issues after about a month of treatment so I'll stick with that as opposed to lighting up joints.

I find that I can't sit still when I'm stoned anymore anyway. It's the same with booze. Every time I'm hung over I feel panicky...I'm really starting to question if partying is worth it now that I'm getting older. Luckily I have a nice woman now so I can focus my attention on her as opposed to getting fucked up on the weekends.

I'll never discourage people from smoking weed but I'm fairly certain it's just not for me anymore. My doctor, who's a pretty liberal guy who I can talk to about anything, told me to cut it out of my life if i"m feeling this way since it will only make it worse. He's probably right.

I miss it too..especially the fact that when I first started to smoke regularly (about a year ago and every day) it was very relaxing most of the time and helped me get to sleep. The odd time (especially mixed with alcohol or any other drug) it would trigger a massive fucking panic attack, but those were rare.

However, the last couple of months I found that I was staying up to smoke weed as opposed to smoking it to calm my nerves after a busy day or whatever. It may have been the new strain I was getting, but goddamn I just couldn't sit still and had to pace around my room sometimes for half an hour all the while telling myself I wasn't going to die. That isn't how I want to feel when I smoke pot and that isn't how anyone SHOULD feel.

I envy the people who can smoke as much as they want and not feel either anxious or retarded. Although I have been saving huge dollars by scaling back on everything substance related and that's a bonus.

I think I'm just getting old.

Bought some new screens for my bong today. It's like taking the restricter plate off a car.

A whole new world of hits once you start ripping them with a new screen.
