We (my brother and i) had to fuckn work for ours, and it was a low-wage indeed... until we were around 13 or 14, we got paid $0.25/0.50 (yes, 25/50 cents) a job.
like, make ur bed, .25, empty the dishwasher, .50, make ur lunch for school, .25, dust ur bedroom, .50, vacuum ur bedroom, .50.... etc. etc.
on a good week if i got between 5$-10$ i was happy
but once 14 hit, no more money, if you want money, you have to go out and get a job... which i did, paper route.... and then after a year or two of that i eventually got a new job that paid more (washing dishes at restaurants, fastfood joints, etc.)
I think the system was very fair... i wasnt complaining
