It sets a dangerous precedent. The prospect of an Indonesian prison sentence is quite the deterrent. If ppl were safe in the knowledge that they would serve out their sentence in an Australian prison, all other things being equal, we would see an increase in drug trafficking.

What a load of bollocks. The punishment should fit the crime. I know Indonesia has its own judicial system but the judges finding 0% of accused drug traffickers guilty in 12 years (approx) obviously says they're biased. We should respect other cultures but if any of us were accused of drug smuggling I know I would like to be held to the same legal standards as in my home country. As a nation, Indonesia is a lot more corrupt than Australia and you must be very naive to think differently. The whole case is pretty unclear and no side can be totally certain of whether she's guilty or not guilty but I find it impossible to believe that she's guilty beyond reasonable doubt, which is what we judge people on here. Australia has an obligation to look out for its citizens and yes I include the other "Bali 9" in this statement.

Even if she's guilty its fucking weed. I dont care if its 10000000 lbs. Its only weed & the fucking shithead prosecutor was going for the death sentence.? WTF? She got 20 years & during that time she is gonna be in the worlds worst prisons & shes only a 27 year old girl. So its just about gaurenteed she's gonna get raped & tortured over & over. That will probably be doubled since she's not a muslim. Like I said in the CORe, her family & friends should start a foundation to hire the best MERC's to break her outta that shithole prison & kill the prosecutors & judges that sentenced her. I know i'd donate & i'd expect my familys to do the same if I were in a similar situation.

its a pity the media got so involved as there is no chance to cut a deal with the police, my friend was caught in Thailand and serverd 7 years of his term, he got out early, money goes a long way in the asian countries ...

* According to an article in today's Sydney Morning Herald, the conditions for foreigners in Bali gaols are actually quite decent, as long as they have friends & money to bribe the guards.

* Bali is not Muslim. The predominant religion is Hindu.

so if I come from some country that I made on a tropical island in the middle of nowhere, where murder is cool (because its a tropical island, we eat people) then go to another country, I should still be judged by my countries legal system? That is absurd. Just like my example.
