If you're so smart name a bacteria or virus that causes the "disease" called alcoholism. Plus you're very quick to call people ignorant and "idiots" and you have no clue what I was actually writing about. I was writing about choice. Before you become an alcoholic you do have a choice, you can simply not drink at all or have a drink or two and stop at that, you don't have to get totally wasted, you don't have to ruin your life, you don't have to spend all your money on alcohol, you don't have to destroy your family and hurt the people that love and care about you. That's why only weak people become alcoholics or people that actually are to ignorant to care about anything. The real alcoholism is when you let that substance control your life. Besides reading you should do some thinking every once in a while.

There is no bacteria or virus that causes alcoholism. Ever heard of muscular dystrophy? Leukemia? Cancer? What virus or bacteria causes those diseases?

And, to a point, allowing your body to become alcoholic is a choice. I mean, yes you can choose to have 1 drink or 5 drinks or 10 drinks. Do you know that every person's body has a threshold of alcohol tolerance that, when reached, makes them an alcoholic for the rest of their lives? And did you also know that certain families / genetic lines have a higher pre-disposition to alcoholism than others. So (for simplicity's sake, I'll use arbitrary factors) someone might have a tolerance of 15 while another may have a tolerance of 2. I know people who have drank heavily for years and have not had a problem with alcoholism, and known others who have succombed to it after only a short period. Maybe your 1 or 2 drinks over a long enough period of time will breach your body's tolerance limit and make you an alcoholic. But was that by your choice?

I agree with a lot of what your saying UWM, however it is to be noted that alcoholism, just like other drug-addictions is largely psychological (not just genetic). Just as some other psychological distorders are thought be partially genetic (scizophrenia, bipolar, depression), so is alcoholism. It's not like someone is born an alcoholic, it is something that occurs over time, once that person becomes more and more exposed to (and dependent upon) the substance. Some people use drugs as a coping mechanism or a way to escape reality, and when they get that high from it, they want to keep going back and back. This is the psychological aspect of it, because it is used as a substitution for real emotions, for real ways to cope with problems. Usually (not always) people with drug-dependency have other problems. This is a disorder or impairment, but not really a "Disease", as diseases are largely biological/chemical. Unless it's a brain tumor or something caused by brain damage, or some other neurological problem that count for being a "disease" like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, it's a disorder.

as far as the police operations go it happened here in d.c. in 2001. there used to be a huge rave at the d.c. armory thrown by ultraworld (energize, engage & a bunch of others). the last one in nov. 2k1 pvd was there and i remember seeing people getting carried out by "bouncers" or whoever, then the next day in the paper there was a story about it, can't remember how many were busted though. but because of that, they were never allowed to throw a party there anymore since it was on military property, bad publicity.

about drug use, i used to roll steady every week for about 5 years straight (at least 5 pills a week). i recently saw a neurologist about some anxiety problems i had, he suggested an eeg, similar to ekg for heart, but for the brain (tests electrical signals). everyone was so sure that drugs had me all fucked up, turns out everything checked out normal and my problem was psychological, boyhood trauma. so i agree that a lot of those studies are bullshit (by the way it wasn't only e i did, just about everything except meth, crack & heroin).

All of your posts show your COMPLETE ignorance about the topic

Where did you see a post about me being a member of AA? Not everybody will die from quitting cold turkey just like not everybody needs an excuse to drink or not to drink.

One of my best friends quit drinking a year ago. When he got home totally wasted after one of his "escapades" he went to sleep, a couple hours later (early dawn) he got up to go the bathroom and found his daughter crying in her room, in her hands she had a picture of him holding her and her mom from many years before he started drinking and abusing cocaine. She told him how much she misses him from those times... The next day he signed up for AA, his abuse lasted between 8 to 10 years, the only side effects from quitting cold turkey he had were shaking hands and that only lasted for two weeks. He goes to AA meetings at least three times a week and he told me that the only thing he will never believe is that it's disease, he simply thinks that he was to blind to see the happiness he had at home and now that he realized it he never wants to drink again because he's never been happier in his entire life. One of the things that make him so happy is the way his daughter and wife look at him now, with pride and love (besides the occasional arguments of course, but hey that's normal in marriage). He says himself that he was to weak to face the truth, that his life is really good the way it is and he doesn't need drugs or alcohol to make it seem better.

It's true that every person has a different alcohol tolerance, so one person can drink more and the other less. It also depends on fiscal state of you body, you can be very tired or simply hungry (on an empty stomach) and get drunk almost immediately. As far us genetics go, it is also true that if your grandfather or father were abusing substances you have a bigger chance to become addicted but not always you inherit the gene responsible for that addiction, sometimes you become addicted because your father will beat the hell out of you if you don't have a drink with him with an extension cord (a real story from a psychology class). Boldness is in many cases blamed on genetics and yet some guys that had a bold father and a grandfather live out their lifes with a full head of hair. I don't drink regularly because I also know and realize the fact that if your brain and body get used to sensation of "buzz" you will crave it more often and I don't always have two drinks, sometimes it's less, sometimes it's more, sometimes it's not even a drink, it can be a glass or a bottle of wine, or simply some beer. Many times I went to parties where people were drinking and I simply didn't because I didn't feel like it and still had a good time. So yeah it is my choice.

Debate between the mind and the body can be endless. But I guarantee you that if you're strong enough you can do a lot more then what the text books tell you.
