Fantastic post, I completely agree with it on all counts. While I haven't heard much of Andy Moor's older stuff, his remix of Medway - Release for example, is a world away from all the twinkly garbage he's making today.
I'd say the same goes for Markus Schulz to a lesser extent. He is capable of making really good stuff, just listen to the Edge Factor productions from the mid 90's or his remix of Billy Paul Williams - So In Love then listen to any of his remixes from mid 2004 onwards. |
Yeah, I like his remix of Release too. I'll have to pull that out and listen to it again. It's interesting that you bring up Markus Schulz. He's probably number one on my shitlist at the moment, and as much as I don't want to, I'll give credit where credit is due and say that his song "Swirl" under his alias Dakota is pretty nice. I think that song came out in 1999 and was used on Digweed's original Bedrock compilation. I liked the song enough that I ended up buying the vinyl release. I remember searching eBay and finding the record sometime late last year during the whole Schulz explosion and was very, very suprised to see his name on the vinyl label when I opened the package. Also when I got the record, I honestly had a hard time believing he produced it and in a way, I still do considering the short audio clips I've happened to hear of the recent "First Time" and "Electro Hairspray".
