He's a hyporcrite... I'll be glad to see him go... but doesn't mean i'm disrespectful to him.

god this thread sure has grown a lot the last couple of days haha. i'll have to go through and read it all a little later...i'll be done with my finals later today so i'll have the time hehe...

and if you guys think that this thread is about "omg my name is floorfiller and no one respects me" then you got the wrong idea. i'm not saying that you have to respect me because i know more than anyone else...there are a lot of people here that know a hell of a lot more than me. you don't even have to like me it's cool. i think i have a lot to offer as far as discussion on this board, but there are lots of other people that do to. unfortunately a vast majority of those people don't talk about music anymore because of the environment here. i'm just saying there are too many people on TA these days that whine about elitists, but then expect help from them and i'm just saying to those people...you're not getting my help anymore and i hope no one else helps you either.

the point of this thread can best be summed up in this Purple guy that's been posting about all this africa stuff bla bla...obviously trying to discredit this thread. he's in here being an idiot, but then just the other day he posts a thread wanting help for tunes with ethnic instruments in it.

now isn't that more or less exactly what i said in my first post?

i have some suggestions of tunes with sitars and eastern sounding instruments, but why would i or anyone else go out of our way to help him out?

While there are people on here that will complain about elitists like you said, there are also some new people who really appreciate the "elitists" for helping to expand our horizons.

Me for instance. Before meeting a TA in my hall the only trance I had heard was Ian Van Dahl, Tiesto, and Cosmic Gate because my highschool friends worshipped typical Trance. I haven't been a member of this forum for all too long, and I really don't know that much about trance, but in the short time I have been regularly reading the forums I feel that my knowledge of Trance has grown significantly.

Although I don't have much to contribute thusfar, I'd just like to say thanks to those who are willing share their knowledge of the music they love. You know you are only helping the trance community by voicing your opinion.

As far as those who flame the more knowledgable, well, pessimists always feel the need to voice their opinion, where someone who takes what you say into consideration might stay quieter.

Again, thanks for being a contributor to a young community, I hope you continue to help where it is desired, and know that some do appreciate what you do

we got a lot of people around here these days that don't seem to appreciate what we contribute to the boards so i don't know about the rest of you, but i'm going to stop contributing.

these are the same people that rely on us to ID their unknown tracks, fill in their dj tracklists, give them new tune suggestions that are "spacey" or "vocal" or "chill"...

seriously why are we wasting our time? we all spend a lot of time researching music and finding tunes that we love...we should just stop sharing that with all of these people that are always bitching...

let's face it, those that actually have a genuine interest in talking about music around here are sadly in the minority. i don't remember the last time i actually got a decent answer or good suggestion on this board...i can't remember the last time i found out about a tune on TA that i hadn't already known about...and when i do it's always the same ten people coming through with great sugestions. meanwhile we are excited to share music tastes and ideas with each other just so people with little radio shows can lurk and snatch up some good tracks that we suggest for their show next week.

it's just a bunch of crap. i mean we've already lost the TA battle to a bunch of people that are either promoting their average new tune or their cookie cutter radio show...and those that are just getting into the genre and think they know everything...

it sucks the most for those people that actually appreciate the suggestions of the TA "elitists" and want to expand their personal taste, but unfortunately the majority is ruining it for those people...

but really...lets keep our knowledge and opinions to ourselves. then where will TA be? it'll be a bunch of kids arguing about which tune on ASOT was the best that week, struggling to find new fresh music, wanting to know what that tune that dj played on that radio show was, and wishing they could get some suggestions for some "classics"...

we've tried our best to keep this site full of info, but we've lost...it's not our problem anymore.

With that kind of an attitude, personally, I don't want to hear you talk on TA at all. By doing what you are suggesting we do, you are merely perpetuating the RICH GET RICHER, THE POOR GET POORER credo of most westernized countries.

So quit talking already, you've already said too much.

I'm all for not helping kids who are just polluting the forums with useless chatter and constant complaining. By all means, withold information from the people who appear not to deserve it. It's good to not give people instant gratification, and instead only share with those who are genuinely interested, anything else is a wasted effort, I can agree with that much at least.

I guess I can do my part to help improve the "environment" around here so that more kids talk about music again, even though I highly doubt that anybody considers me even remotely elite.

I think it is worthwhile to explore this a bit more:

quote:
I'm tired of people treating trance like a cute Fisher-Price toy, when it has diversity and depth behind it.

Everyone I know has a very narrow definition for trance, the dj sammy and dutch epic stuff is the only things they think of, rarely somebody will include psy in their definition depending on where they are from. (this all coming from people I encounter in person scattered across my home state). So maybe it is time we made another attempt at charting all of this diversity, just to get a broad idea of what is out there and to help more ppl realize that there is more than just the stuff that is getting the most attention at the moment. Where I live there is alot of hostility towards this "DJ deification" and because people associate trance with superstar djs nobody respects any music classified as trance regardless of what it sounds like or who made it. So I am quite interested in finding ways to show people in my region that trance has many different faces including the rebelious underground one that they desire, maybe I should write up a new thread.

Dischord is the primary source of human drama.

It shouldn't be a surprise that it permeates reality by design.

I am my worst ennemy. Or more accurately, I am my greatest generator of dischord.

i gotta give credit to floorfiller and rebel9, i remember way back when i had loads of unknown tunes, a lot of the time those 2 were ID'ing the tunes i wanted

of course if people like you stop positive contributions, then the place will only get worse. stop being so selfish

uhhh...

by educated decision, i refer to an INFORMED ONE... seeing as ur covering education, i suggest u review ur own.

i never disrespected floorfiller, other than the african bit in this stupid thread, which i've kindly pointed out that i've stopped. but hey, i don't like him anyway, so go figure.

whilst it's good that he contributed, again, good riddance to a complete jerk.

this is completely stupid... if ppl are too thick to understand what i'm saying, then it's their problem... no point in arguing and make a spectacle out of it.

People have no right to judge other ppl by what is says under their sign-on name. Just because i person is only registered for a short amount of time, doesn't mean that they dont know anything. A lot of ppl jsut read these discussion boards, and wait a long time before they actually sign on.anyone who judges me by what's written under my sign0on name, is their own worst enemy.

n00bs are n00bs. They can't help themselves. . They don't know who the l337 ppl are (and anyone who calls himself l337, needs a head shrink), and who aren't. and they haven't yet learnt how to co-ordinate themselves in this site. SO you can't expect much else.

Elitism brings nothing to the table. I've found in my time here that "good" members of this forum bring strong knowledge in any area to the table, whether it's trance, computers, or autmobiles. This knowledge plus the ability to express themselves clearly seems to make for long-time, well-liked members.

The problem with staying here a long time is the noob cycle. For every one noob who understands the (un)written rules of the forum, there are 10 who come in and act like complete assholes. I'm talking about violating rules like TYPING IN ALL CAPS, asking for The_New_MP3-1919, or repeating oft-posted topics. It's not so much the transgression of rules that pisses people off (though for some it does), it's when the noobs react defensively or harshly towards people trying to correct them.

Now, the way that longer-term members react varies in it's appropriateness. Some of them are more caustic than need be. And their are some borderline topics that often turn into flame wars. The biggest of these is whether it's appropriate to say that artists or genres that have already been the "in-thing" here suck and attack those who like them. I tend to side with those who say the attacking is ok, with some rules. The most important of these is: Provide Evidence. Stating your opinion without facts to back it up is like throwing sand at a rock to move it. You should also not take criticism from another personally; criticizing something you like is not the same as criticizing you.

Differences are a part of life and you should be prepared to accept that people will have different opinions than you. As forum mebers, we should get along, even with our different tastes in music, because while this site is called tranceaddict, the forum mebership goes far beyond that label. Having intelligent discussions on music of all kinds seems to be the purpose of this part of the forum.

Well I think this thought of elitism is more bad for TA than n00bs posting their appreciation for Armin, Tiesto, Dave.

I woudnt have bothered to reply to your post because I dont think you are an elite, you see people who are elite are actually the ones who contibute to the scene by producing new tracks. You dont become an elite by posting insults to n00bs or by posting insults to Dave Dresden to impress your fellow 'elitists'.

You see I am not trying to discredit this thread. I am genuinly intested in knowing more about Africa and its people, but I didnt wanted to post a new thread for that. Thats why I asked him and his reply was fabulous, it got me more interested in Africa.
