The whining/cat fighting in this thread is unbelievable.
Some of you are akin to teenage girls fighting over the popular boy in class. Get a grip.

Sorry
You don't help much when you include non-DJs in the drop down menu, though. If you wanted it to include live PAs, producers, etc, that should be spelled out in the original post or don't call it a "Top 250 DJs Poll." Call it the top 250 EDM Acts Poll or something.
Junkie XL has stated he's not a DJ, which is where my argument comes from
quote:
Wolfie: I see you in many DJ centric magazines. Do you people ever mistake you for a DJ?
Junkie XL: I AM NOT A DJ. I only play live with computers. I've never played with records in my life. Well actually I did one time when I was so drunk.
I can produce records, but I can't microwave my burrito and I cannot put two records into synch. I didn't want to be that next producer that also wants to be a dj. I stick to playing live with my computers. I have to say, playing live these days comes very close to what certain dj’s are doing. If you look at Sasha he's playing live with Abelton with sound clips. That gets very close to how I play live. 10 years ago I would have two or three big racks of samplers and synths up on stage. Now, most of it is software on the computer.

Those in the list are from the TA Top 250 from last year - for things to be fair.
In the case of your Junkie XL example, yes, he may not be a DJ but seeing how his performances are often sandwiched between other DJs billed for the night it can be argued that he provides a musically equivalent experience (albeit with a technical variation). There are only a handful of such artists out there, and, for them to be excluded from the drop-down list solely because of that is just a roadblock from some extra exposure/votes they'd gain otherwise.
As for producers - all it may take for someone to place up on a DJ poll (TA/DJ mag or whatever) is a killer production that is caned by the top DJs. That producer may not be a DJ at the time of the poll but may see the result as a motivator towards going in that direction (alongside their production work) - and in the end we can all benefit from a little extra push.
Anyways, I don't want this discussion to overpower the thread - we can take this to another thread.

I think Luke Fair will rise quite a bit, and I think Gabriel & Dresden will fall... though probably not that far. Their sets haven't changed that much since 2005.

Honestly, if you don't know if they are DJ's are not then you haven't heard their sets, thus if you haven't heard their sets you can't analyze their DJing skills. This is a DJ popularity contest, not producing.

No way! Kai MacDonald is a good friend of Frank Ellrich, who is actually is A*S*Y*S. They make music together, but as a DJ A*S*Y*S is Frank Ellrich!
