+1

It's not that difficult to end one's life if one wanted to...

Okay, I don't really want to prolong the conversation but I must respond to this. There are many reasons one may choose to continue living that are illogical and irrational. The fact that one does not kill themselves may be a function of religious belief, apathy, irrational hope, or a whole host of other things none of which can logically lead to the conclusion that their life is worth living.

Let's lighten this up... I know lots of people here whose life doesn't appear to be worth living!

Similarly, there are days that I would rather kill myself than get out of bed but killing myself would require me to get out of bed to get something to do it with so I figure as I am up already, may as well carry on with life...

Today has been fun and enlightening guys, thanks for that. And thanks for not ridiculing me for my beliefs (too much). I am also impressed that we kept it away from insults and digs.

I find it amusing now that you think you are a better judge of whether someone else's life is worth living than they are.

I didn't say I was, what I was trying to illustrate is that one cannot logically conclude someone's life has merit simply because they have not killed themselves.

I really, have nothing further to add to this. You think I'm a monster and I think you're compassion is misinformed or misguided. Neither of us are likely to change our positions. Please, continue to act in what ever manner gives you comfort. This has been enjoyable, thanks and good day.

Quitting is not an option.

I refuse to accept that just because someone is in difficult position, that person should die.

It may be illogical at the moment to continue to live because the situation is so horrid and the pain is too great and ending the suffering may seem to be a mercy.

But if everyone quit just because life sucks, then humanity wouldn't be alive today.

Perhaps today sucks, but tomorrow might be better.

If you quit now, you'll never have the chance to win.

I was told a story once. A Canadian soldier went on a peacekeeping mission to East Timor. He was there for 6 months and that place was a mess when he got there. But one day, he and his team went to a village and he had a talk with a local woman. The woman thanked him for what he was doing, because it made a difference in her life, even if it's temporary.

Sure, helping them now may just be prolonging their suffering. But rarely we find the perfect solution to humanity's problems.

If we keep trying, one day, we might find that solution.

In the meantime, keep trying, even if it means failing sometimes because sometimes, failures count. It means that we give a damn about fellow humans. It means that we are trying to help them survive.. It means that we are trying to help humanity survive.

Giving up on those who are suffering means we give up on humanity.

I do not accept that.

That is the most simple yet perfect answer there is. To help those that are not going to fully benefit from the help is like you said a band aid solution. Unfortunately society will never understand this. Our own guilt and morals prevent us from doing what is best for these people. Let the sick and unhealthy pass on and focus on helping those who will actually benefit. Many third world nations would be better off if this sort of ideology was implemented. Even our society would benefit from such a belief.

Its feeling bad for the suffering of others that will destroy society.

About 3 years ago, i decided to be a vegetarian. That only lasted about 8 months. I realised that even though I was eating healthy foods, my body was lacking a lot of proteins that are mainly found in meat. Also, it was difficult for me to be a vegetarian because my town did not have any meat alternatives (ie tofu, etc).
